The reciter: And Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, and Abu Dawud narrated to us, and Shu'bah narrated to us from Aban ibn Taghlib from Fudayl from Ibrahim from Alqamah from Abdullah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: Sahih Muslim 91c.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Regarding a hadith like this, it is said: Entry is of two types, absolute entry and the absolute of entry. What is negated here is absolute entry, meaning entry that has not been preceded by punishment regarding entry into Paradise, and entry that has not been preceded by bliss regarding entry into the Fire. This is like the statement: No one who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of faith will enter the Fire, meaning he will not enter it in a way that he remains in it forever, but he will enter it according to the measure of his sin and then be brought out of it.
Likewise, it is said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1998Sahih (Darussalam) meaning he will not enter it in an absolute manner, in the sense that he will not enter it except after punishment for the arrogance he possesses, and then he will enter Paradise.
We have interpreted this hadith contrary to its apparent meaning because of the many pieces of evidence indicating that only the pure disbeliever remains in the Fire forever. Likewise, only the pure disbeliever is prevented from entering Paradise. Therefore, it is necessary to interpret it as we have mentioned: It is said, No one who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of faith will enter the Fire, meaning absolute entry, in the sense that he will not remain in it forever. Otherwise, he may enter it even if he has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of faith. The evidence for this is the hadith of intercession, which states that those who have in their hearts the weight of a mustard seed of faith will be brought out of the Fire. Likewise, it is said: No one who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance will enter Paradise. Meaning: He will not enter in the absolute entry that has not been preceded by punishment; rather, he must be punished.
Then, what this hadith indicates is also qualified by the saying of the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:48] unless it is said that arrogance is not forgiven.
He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise.
