The questioner : Also, he asks: What is the ruling on traveling to the lands of the disbelievers for recreation, knowing that the person will adhere to his Islamic attire and his obligations? And success is from Allah.

The Shaykh : There is no doubt that traveling to the lands of the disbelievers is dangerous for a person, no matter how pious, committed, and careful he is. It is either disliked or forbidden, except for a pressing need.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : A trip for recreation is not a pressing need. In the lands of Islam, praise be to Allah, there are many parks that are sufficient to satisfy a person’s desire in a permissible manner, and he has no need for the lands of disbelief. Moreover, the soul is inclined to evil; it may suggest to him that he do what is not permissible by the Shari'ah in those lands where what is lawful is not made lawful and what is forbidden is not made forbidden. Then, he may become accustomed to it year after year until he takes pleasure in those people and finds pleasing what they do of customs and other things that contradict the Shari'ah. At that point, he falls into a situation from which he cannot extricate himself. Yes.
