The questioner : He has another and final question, saying: I see many of the brothers turning to the right and left in prayer in a very strange manner, and some of them come and then say the takbir before standing in the prayer, meaning they say the takbir and then walk several steps. What do you advise such brothers? I ask Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, the All-Powerful, to reward you with the best reward for us?
The Shaykh : We advise these brothers by saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned against turning in prayer, and he said:Bulugh al-Maram 2:113 He was asked about turning in prayer, and he said: Sahih al-Bukhari 751 meaning theft.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Would any person be pleased to have his enemy steal something from his work, which is his best deed? No, no one is pleased with that. Therefore, turning in prayer is disliked with severe dislike. If it becomes frequent until it becomes play and takes the prayer out of its proper context, it invalidates the prayer. So we advise them to stand for Allah the Exalted, attentive in their prayer, as Allah Blessed and Exalted is He commanded them in His saying:[Al-Baqarah 2:238].
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : This is our advice to them regarding turning in prayer.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : As for saying the takbir before entering the row, we also advise them not to do so. Let them be deliberate until they stand in the row, and then say the takbir. For the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Bakrah, who had bowed before reaching the row and then reached it, that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:Sunan Abi Dawud 683Sahih (Al-Albani) When you reach the row and line up with the Muslims, say the takbir. This is what is prescribed for them.
The questioner : Yes, you have done well, may Allah reward you.
