Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "And He, the Exalted, said to Musa and Harun:
So remain on a right course and follow not the way of those who do not know." فاستقيما ولا تتبعان سبيل الذين لا يعلمون
[Yunus 10:89]
And He, the Exalted, said:
And Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place among my people, do right [by them], and do not follow the way of the corrupters." وقال موسى لأخيه هارون اخلفني في قومي وأصلح ولا تتبع سبيل المفسدين
[Al-A'raf 7:142]
, and He, the Most High, said:
And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell ومن يشاقق الرسول من بعد ما تبين له الهدى ويتبع غير سبيل المؤمنين نوله ما تولى ونصله جهنم
[An-Nisa 4:115]
and other such verses. The guidance and practice upon which they are is of the way of the non-believers, and indeed of the way of the corrupters and those who do not know. And if it is assumed that it is not included in the general ruling, then the prohibition is established regarding its genus. Thus, separating from the genus entirely is closer to leaving the prohibited thing, and approaching it is a place where the prohibited thing is likely to occur."
.

The Shaykh : Do you have "approaching it" or "separating from it"?
The Reader: Yes.

The Shaykh : Approaching it.
The reader: The last one?

The Shaykh : Yes, and if it is assumed.
The reader: "And if it is assumed that it is not included in the general ruling, then the prohibition is established regarding its genus. Thus, separating from the genus entirely is closer to leaving the prohibited thing, and approaching it is a place where the prohibited thing is likely to occur.".

The Shaykh : For example, if a person says about a specific thing that there is no contradiction in it and it does not require us to contradict them in it, we say: We have a general prohibition, which is the genus of contradiction. So whatever falls under the genus, we are commanded to do so, whether it is specified by name or not, as long as the intent of the Shari'ah is that we contradict these disbelievers. So whatever falls under that, even if it is not mentioned by name, is established. Yes.
