The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows: Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in the book *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "Muslim narrated in his *Sahih* from Zuhayr from Simak ibn Harb, who said:
I asked Jabir ibn Samurah about the prayer of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: He used to make the prayer light, and he did not pray the prayer of these people.
And he informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in the Fajr prayer Qaf, al-Qur'an al-Majid, and similar surahs. The Shaykh : In a hadith like this, do we say that this surah, meaning it is recommended to recite it because it was specifically designated, or do we say that the Companion designated it only for the sake of analogy? Yes, there is a possibility that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) recited that specific surah, or that the Companion intended analogy. And similar to this is the previous hadith of Mu'adh: هلا قرأت بــــ الشمس وضحاها و سبح اسم ربك الأعلى و والليل إذا يغشى Why did you not recite al-Shams wa Dhaha, Subh al-Asma Rabbik al-A'la, and al-Layl idha Yaghsha? and similar to it. Do we say that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) intended them specifically, or that he intended this amount? I say, without doubt, that what is explicitly mentioned is preferable to anything else, without doubt. The possibility that it was for the mere amount and not for specific designation is valid. But it is befitting for a person, in order to fully follow the example, to recite what the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) or the Companion designated, even if there is a possibility that it was in the category of what? In the category of mentioning the amount and analogy based on this. Yes.
