And prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths regarding the command to maintain the prescribed prayers, and the strong prohibition and severe warning against abandoning them:
"From Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Verily between man and between polytheism and unbelief is the negligence of prayer.
Sahih Muslim 82a
Narrated by Muslim.
And from Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: It is a good, authentic hadith.
And from Shaqiq ibn Abdullah, the Tabi'i whose greatness is agreed upon (may Allah have mercy on him), who said:
The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not consider the abandonment of any action as disbelief except neglecting Salat.
Riyad as-Salihin 1080
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi with a sound chain.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed the first deed by which a servant will be called to account on the Day of Resurrection is his Salat. If it is complete, he is successful and saved, but if it is defective, he has failed and lost. So if something is deficient in his obligatory (prayers) then the Lord, Mighty and Sublime says: 'Look! Are there any voluntary (prayers) for my worshipper?' So with them, what was deficient in his obligatory (prayers) will be completed. Then the rest of his deeds will be treated like that.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 413Sahih (Darussalam)
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, who said: It is a good hadith"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These are hadiths warning against neglecting the prayer:
The hadith of Jabir and the hadith of Buraydah: As for the hadith of Jabir, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Between a man and kufr (disbelief) and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer
, and the hadith of Buraydah:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
: These two hadiths indicate that the one who abandons prayer is a disbeliever, and that he is a disbeliever in a disbelief that takes him out of the religion. The one who does not pray is worse than the Jews and the Christians. A Jew: if he slaughtered an animal, a person could eat his slaughter. And a Christian: if he slaughtered an animal, a person could eat his slaughter. But if the one who abandons prayer slaughters, his slaughter is not lawful. For example, if the one who abandons prayer is a woman who does not pray, it is not lawful for a Muslim to marry her. But if she is a Christian, it is permissible for a Muslim to marry her, and if she is a Jew, it is permissible for a Muslim to marry her.
The one who abandons prayer is not left to continue abandoning prayer; rather, it is said to him: Pray, or we will kill you. The Jew and the Christian are left to their religion, either by treaty, safe conduct, or dhimmah (protection). This indicates that abandoning prayer is greater than Judaism and Christianity. This is the matter that people are negligent about today.
And it should be known that if a person abandons prayer and then a marriage contract is made for him with a woman, the marriage is not valid. If he has intercourse with her, he is committing zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), may Allah protect us from that. Likewise, if a marriage contract is made for him while he is praying, and then he abandons prayer, the marriage is annulled, and it is obligatory to separate him from the woman, unless he repents and returns to Islam, in which case he remains in his marriage.
And it should also be known that if the one who abandons prayer dies while abandoning prayer, he is not washed, not shrouded, no funeral prayer is performed for him, he is not buried with the Muslims, no mercy is invoked for him, and he does not benefit from the intercession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of Resurrection.
But what do we do with him? Do we leave his corpse for the dogs to eat while we watch?
No, because this would break the hearts of his relatives. But we take him out to the desert, to the open land, and we dig a hole for him, which is not a grave, it is a hole, and we throw him in it with his clothes, without shrouding, without washing, and without prayer for him, and without any honor for him. If it were not that his family would be affected, we would say: let him remain on the surface of the earth for the dogs to eat and for people to look at him. But he is thrown in to avoid his stench, his smell, and his filth. And when the Day of Resurrection comes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
He will be gathered with Pharaoh, Haman, Qarun, and Ubayy ibn Khalaf
: the leaders of disbelief, may Allah protect us from that. He is not gathered with Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali; he is gathered with these people. And by this we know that abandoning prayer is a grave matter, and that it is obligatory for one who has a deceased person who did not pray to keep him away from the mosques of the Muslims. It is not lawful for him to present him to the Muslims to pray for him while he knows that he died while never praying. If he does so, he is doing wrong to the Muslims, and the Muslims are not at fault because they did not know, because Allah said:
And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
[At-Tawbah 9:84]
.
And the one who does not pray is a disbeliever in Allah and His Messenger, even if he says: I believe that Allah exists and I believe that the Messenger Muhammad exists. This is not sufficient, because the hypocrites say this very thing:
When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the Messenger of Allah."
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
Allah the Exalted said:
And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that the hypocrites are liars.
[Al-Munafiqun 63:1]
.
Then know that if a person dies to you and he did not pray, it is not lawful for you to inherit anything from him, according to the opinion of the majority of scholars, because his inheritance is not for his Muslim relatives, just as if a Muslim relative of his died, he would not inherit from him. For example, if a person dies and he has a son who does not pray and a distant paternal uncle who prays, who inherits from him? The distant paternal uncle inherits, and his son does not inherit.
And if he dies leaving his father, and he does not pray, and he has an uncle, and the son is wealthy, and he dies leaving his father who does not pray and his Muslim uncle who prays, to whom does the money belong? The money belongs to the uncle, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
A Muslim may not inherit from an infidel nor an infidel from a Muslim.
Sunan Abi Dawud 2909Sahih (Al-Albani)
: And this is what the texts of the Book and the Sunnah and the consensus of the Companions indicate, as reported by Abdullah ibn Shaqiq or Shaqiq ibn Abdullah, who said:
the companions of God’s Messenger did not consider the abandonment of any good deeds but prayer to be infidelity
Mishkat al-Masabih 579
, and al-Nawawi said about this man: "It is agreed upon regarding his greatness, his trustworthiness, his integrity, and his meticulousness", and our later scholars, such as Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Baz (may Allah preserve him), have explicitly stated that he is a disbeliever in a disbelief that takes him out of the religion, and that he is an apostate from the religion of Islam. Unfortunately, people are now negligent about this matter. We ask Allah to guide us all to what is good and righteous.
