Commentary on Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim-11b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "their schools, and we will mention from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), regarding his dislike of speaking their language, what supports this. And what is in the aforementioned hadith of the prohibition of covering the mouth, some of them explained it as being the practice of the Majus (Zoroastrians) at their fires which they worship"

The Shaykh : at
The reader: "at their fires which they worship"

The Shaykh : Yes
The reader: "So on this basis: the appropriateness of combining the prohibition of letting the garment hang down and the prohibition of covering the mouth, due to what is in"

The Shaykh : both of them, due to what is in both of them
The reader: "both of them of similarity to the disbelievers, even though each of them contains another meaning that necessitates dislike, and there is no objection in explaining a ruling with two causes.
This is from the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and as for the rest of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), there are many, such as: what we mentioned earlier from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman: that when he was invited to a wedding feast and saw something of the dress of the non-Arabs, he left and said:
He who copies any people is one of them.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
And Abu Muhammad al-Khallal narrated with his chain from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said:
A man asked him: Do I use an enema? He said: Do not expose the private parts, and do not follow the practice of the polytheists.
. So his saying:
Do not follow the practice of the polytheists.
is general"
.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : In my view, is it a clear hamzat al-wasl or hamzat al-qat'?
The reader: In my view, it is hamzat al-qat'.

The Shaykh : Hamzat al-qat'?
The Reader: Yes.

The Shaykh : It appears that it is "Ihtaqan" (with hamzat al-wasl).
The reader: "
A man asked him: Do I use an enema? He said: Do not expose the private parts, and do not follow the practice of the polytheists.
. So his saying:
Do not follow the practice of the polytheists.
is general. And Abu Dawud said: Al-Hasan ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, al-Hajjaj ibn Husayn informed us, saying:
We went in to visit Anas b. Malik, and my sister al-Mughira told me that at that time I was a youth with two plaits of hair (The text mentions qarnan or qussatan . The former would mean two side plaits and the latter two plaits over the forehead. The alternative is given evidently because the transmitter is not sure which was the correct word), and he wiped my head, invoked a blessing on me and said, “Shave these two, or clip them, for this is the style of the Jews.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 4484
. The prohibition of them was explained by the fact that it is the dress of the Jews, and explaining the prohibition with a cause necessitates that the cause is disliked, and its absence is sought"
.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: I don't have... and explaining the prohibition with a cause.

The Shaykh :
Shave them (i.e. the locks) or clip them, for this is the fashion of the Jews.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4197Da'if in chain (Al-Albani)
And what comes after?
The student: And explaining the prohibition.

The Shaykh : In my view, this is missing: "the dress of the Jews, even in the hair"... it comes.
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : This is the dress of the Jews.
The student: Yes, and explaining the prohibition with a cause.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : Yes.
The reader: "And explaining the prohibition necessitates that the cause..." .

The Shaykh : What do you have, 'Abd al-Rahman?
The reader: In my view "And explaining the prohibition with a cause necessitates that the cause is disliked" .

The Shaykh : Write it for me, and "explaining".
The student: I am different, after he said "this is the dress of the Jews," he said "the prohibition was explained"...

The Shaykh : The prohibition was explained.
The student: Yes, after the hadith, may Allah reward you, after the hadith, I will write it for you after the athar.

The Shaykh : I have in my view "or cut them short, for this is the dress of the Jews."
The reader: From here, the prohibition of them was explained "The prohibition of them was explained by the fact that it is the dress of the Jews, and explaining the prohibition with a cause necessitates that the cause is disliked, and its absence is sought, so it is known that the dress of the Jews - even in the hair - is something whose absence is sought, and that is the intended point.
And Ibn Abi 'Asim narrated, Wahb ibn Buqayya narrated to us, Khalid al-Wasiti narrated to us, from 'Imran ibn Hudayr, from Abu Mujlaz, from Mu'awiyah that he said:
Leveling the graves is a recommended practice (sunnah), and the Jews and Christians raised them, so do not imitate them.
"
.

The Shaykh : Ah.
The student: The time for questions has come.

The Shaykh : No, it hasn't? It has, O Hajjaj?
The student: I have a marginal note on "Fahar al-Yahud" (The Jews' Index).

The Shaykh : Regarding what?
The student: Fahar al-Yahud.

The Shaykh : Yes, and what does it say?
The student: It says, and in Fath al-Shawkani on *al-Muntaqa*, its wording is: The author of *al-Imam wa al-Qahr* (with a dammah on the qaf and a sukun on the hah).

The Shaykh : Al-Qahr?
The student: Yes, with a qaf.

The Shaykh : Al-Qahr?
The student: He said, with a dammah on the qaf and a sukun on the hah, the place of their schools where they gather, and it was mentioned in *al-Qamus* and *al-Nihayah* with a fa' not a qaf.

The Shaykh : So "Midas" is the gathering of schools, it means their schools, "Midas" and "Madas" mean the same thing.
