Explanation of the Book of Marriage-15

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :" And from Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) married a man to a woman for a dowry of an iron ring. زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم رجلا امرأةً بخاتم من حديد
Bulugh al-Maram 8:80
Al-Hakim narrated it, and it is a part of the long hadith mentioned earlier in the beginning of the Book of Marriage "
:
Has this been mentioned before?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, in the hadith of the woman who offered herself to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). But if we examine the two hadiths, we find that there is a difference between them, which is: he says:
He married her with an iron ring زوجه بخاتم من حديد
, whereas in the two Sahihs it is that he said to him:
Seek, even if it is only an iron ring, but he did not find one, so he married her with what he had of the Qur'an التمس ولو خاتما من حديد، فلم يجد فزوجه على ما معه من القرآن
:
If the story is one, as is apparent from the words of Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him), then the meaning of:
He married her زوجه
is: he permitted marriage with an iron ring, based on his saying:
Seek, even if it is only a ring التمس ولو خاتما
.
As for the marriage contract that took place, it was that he married him with what he had of the Qur'an, and the matter is clear.
