Explanation of the Book of Marriage-16

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: 'The mahr (bridal gift) should not be less than ten dirhams.' Al-Daraqutni narrated it as mawquf (stopping at a Companion), and there is a defect in its chain":
Yes, this report is mawquf (stopping at a Companion) at 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and 'Ali is one of the Rightly Guided Caliphs whose words are accepted and whose guidance is followed.
However, the report is not authentic, because it contains a narrator who fabricates hadiths. What is the ruling on the hadiths of fabricators?
The student: Rejected.

The Shaykh : Rejected. And on this basis, this report is worthless and has no standing.
Nevertheless, some scholars adopted it and said: "The mahr (bridal gift) is not valid if it is less than ten dirhams". However, this is refuted because this report is not authentic, and because the general meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property أن تبتغوا بأموالكم
[An-Nisa 4:24]
includes ten and less than ten.
And because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man:
Look (for something), even if it is only an iron ring التمس ولو خاتما من حديد
Sunan an-Nasa'i 3359Sahih (Darussalam)
. And because he permitted the marriage of a woman on the condition of two sandals.
And because he clarified that whoever gave a woman flour or dates has made her lawful.
These hadiths, supported by the general meaning of the verse, indicate the weakness of the claim that the mahr (bridal gift) should not be less than ten dirhams. Yes, the weakness of the claim that the mahr (bridal gift) should not be less than ten dirhams.
