Reading a research paper by some students on the terms used in the hadiths regarding urination, with the Shaykh’s commentary on it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... Chapter Ten.
The student: In some of the hadiths, but not in Muslim. The one in Muslim is the opposite of what I said, if it explicitly stated that it was different, and it did not say "he poured out the water."

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: But there are some hadiths in the Musnad and the Sunan.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: Shall I read some of them?

The Shaykh : Fine, give me one of them.
The student: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
"Imam Ahmad narrated in the Musnad, saying: Ali ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Abdullah narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Hubayrah, from al-A'mash, from Ibn Abbas:
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to go out and pour out the water, then wipe with the earth, so I would say: O Messenger of Allah, the water is near you, so he would say: How should I know? Perhaps I will not reach it. أنّ رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وسلّم كان يخرج فيهريق الماء فيتمسّح بالتّراب، فأقول: يا رسول الله إنّ الماء منك قريب، فيقول: ما يدريني لعلّي لا أبلغه
. The hadith was also narrated by Ibn al-Mubarak in *Al-Zuhd*, and Shaykh Ahmad Shakir authenticated it in his verification of the Musnad, and Shaykh al-Albani authenticated it in al-Silsilah al-Sahihah.
Another hadith, Imam Ahmad also narrated in the Musnad: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, Hashim—meaning Ibn al-Barid—narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Aqil narrated to us, from Ibn Jabir—meaning Abdullah ibn Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him)—who said:
I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he had poured out the water, so I said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, but he did not respond to me, so I said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, but he did not respond to me, so I said: Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah, but he did not respond to me, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out walking and I was behind him until he entered his tent, and I entered the mosque dejected and sad, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to me and had purified himself, and said: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah, then he said: Shall I inform you, O Abdullah ibn Jabir, of the best surah in the Qur'an? I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah, he said: Recite Al-Hamdu lillahi Rabb al-'Alamin until you finish it.
.
And Ibn al-Jarud narrated in al-Muntaqa, saying: Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abdullah narrated to us "
..

The Shaykh : From whom else?
The student: Yes?

The Shaykh : From Imam Ahmad and others?
The student: Yes, Imam Ahmad and others narrated it.

The Shaykh : From whom else?
The student: " With the same chain, Ibn Majah narrated it, but there is a slight difference in it. Al-Busayri graded its chain as good, and Shaykh al-Albani authenticated it. Also, what is written for me is from Imam Ahmad and Ibn Majah ".

The Shaykh : In any case, it contains Ibn Lahi'ah from other than the 'Abdullahs.
The student: From the narration of Ibn al-Mubarak from him.

The Shaykh : From him?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: " And it is in the book Al-Zuhd by Ibn al-Mubarak. Also, Ibn al-Jarud said: Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Rajaa narrated to us, Sa'id—meaning Ibn Salama—narrated to us, Abu Bakr—meaning Ibn Umar ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab—narrated to me, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)
That a man passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was pouring out the water, so the man greeted him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned the greeting to him, then said: If you see me like this, do not greet me, for if you do, I will not return the greeting to you.
. Its verifier, Abu Ishaq al-Huwayni, said its chain is good, and Shaykh al-Albani also graded its chain as good in al-Silsilah al-Sahihah "
.

The Shaykh : Muslim?
The student: Yes?

The Shaykh : The narration in Muslim, do you say?
The student: No, I said that I made a mistake in attributing it to Muslim. The narration in Muslim is from the hadith of Ibn Abbas, and the narrator did not say from him: and it did not say "he poured out the water."
" This narration, the narration of Ibn Abbas, that he said "he poured out the water," is in the Musnad, but with a weak chain. So Imam Ahmad said in the Musnad: Isma'il ibn Umar narrated to us, Ibn Abi Dhab narrated to us, from Shu'bah, from Ibn Abbas, that Usamah ibn Zayd was riding behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the Day of 'Arafah, so he entered the valley and dismounted and poured out the water, then performed ablution and mounted and did not pray. And this is a chain whose men are trustworthy, except that it is broken between Shu'bah and Ibn Abbas, for Shu'bah did not meet Ibn Abbas or any of the Companions ".

The Shaykh : Yes.
The student: And the hadith also came from other paths in the Musnad, but all of them are broken.

The Shaykh : Muslim ... in the narration of Muslim?
The student: No ... I did not complete the research ...

The Shaykh : In any case, it is possible that these narrators narrated by meaning. As for this, Salih gave me a copy from Kuraib: " That he asked Usamah ibn Zayd how you did when you rode behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the evening of 'Arafah, so he said: We came to the valley where the people were for the Maghrib prayer, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) tethered his she-camel and urinated—and he did not say "he poured out the water"—then he called for water for ablution and performed ablution, which was not ... " In any case, all the hadiths mention urination with an explicit term, and Ibn Muflih is a man of strong memory, and as I quoted for you yesterday, he said it is better to say "he urinated" and not say "he poured out the water" or "water was poured out." Perhaps the narrators narrated by meaning or by what was famous among them, and this is what necessitated in the hadith of Muslim that it said: and it did not say "he poured out the water," as if after the passing of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), this became the famous term among them. Yes.
