Explanation of the Book of Purification-11

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he transmitted: "From 'Abdullah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
Two thirds of a Mudd (of water) was brought to he Prophet (ﷺ) (for ablution) so he began rubbing his arms إن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أتى بثلثي مد فجعل يدلك ذراعيه
Bulugh al-Maram 41
Ahmad narrated it, and Ibn Khuzaymah graded it as authentic"
:
He brought two-thirds of a mudd أتى بثلثي مد
: And the mudd is a quarter of a sa', the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is less than the customary sa's among us by a fifth and more, meaning eighty out of one hundred and five. This is the sa' of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) relative to our sa's, so it is small. The mudd is a quarter of the sa', and two-thirds of the mudd means two-thirds, which is a small amount. And yet, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform wudu with two-thirds of a mudd, and this is the least amount reported that he performed wudu with. The most he would perform wudu with is a mudd, and he would perform ghusl with a sa'.
