The Shaykh : Wiping over the leather socks requires certain conditions:
The first is what was indicated in the hadith of al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "
I was with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) كنت مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فتوضأ
Sunan Ibn Majah 3553Sahih (Darussalam)
"
:
This was during the expedition to Tabuk, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned, and al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah was with him, carrying water for his ablution and cleaning himself.
and he performed ablution, so I reached out to remove his socks فتوضأ فأهويتُ لأنزع خفيه
: This means I bent my head to remove his socks, and it seems he was standing, pouring water over the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), so when he reached the feet, he bent down to remove the socks.
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Leave them دعهما
: This means: Leave them, do not remove them, and then he explained the reason by saying:
For I put them on in a state of purity فإني أدخلتهما طاهرتين
:
Here there are two pronouns:
Leave them دعهما
and
I put them on أدخلتهما
. Does the pronoun in "leave them" and "I put them on" refer to the same thing, or do they differ?
Let us look:
Leave them دعهما
means leave the socks, do not remove them, or "leave them" means leave the feet, do not pour water on them.
for I put them on فإني أدخلتهما
: What does the pronoun refer to?
The feet, yes, because the foot is what is inserted into the sock, is that not so?
So the pronoun in
I put them on أدخلتهما
refers to the feet, and this supports the idea that the pronoun in "leave them" refers to the feet.
So what does
and he wiped over them فمسح عليهما
refer to?
It refers to the socks, and this supports the idea that his saying:
Leave them دعهما
refers to the socks, and the ruling does not differ whether it refers to this or that.
And his saying:
He put them in while they were pure أدخلتهما طاهرتين
: "pure," we parse it as a state (hal), a state of the pronoun in his saying:
I put them on أدخلتهما
.
and he wiped over them فمسح عليهما
: And the order of wiping was not mentioned, meaning: it was not mentioned that he wiped the right one then the left one, but he affirmed that he wiped over them.
