Is it permissible to dedicate the prayer after the obligatory prayer to a deceased father or mother?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener, Muhammad Hamd Allah Bati or Bati, asks: Is it permissible to dedicate the prayer after the obligatory prayer to a deceased father or mother?

The Shaykh : The stronger position in our view is that this is permissible, and that it is permissible for a person to dedicate the reward of voluntary good deeds to whomever he wishes among the Muslims. However, this is a matter that should be done, but it is not a recommended practice (sunnah) in the sense that it is not required for a person to do it. If he does it, there is no blame on him. Supplication for the parents is better than dedicating acts of worship to them, because supplication is a prescribed matter by consensus and beneficial by the agreement of the scholars. As for dedicating acts of worship, it is a point of disagreement among scholars. We point out and advise our brothers who love to benefit their parents or other Muslims to benefit them by supplicating for them for forgiveness, mercy, and pleasure, because that is more beneficial and more useful by the consensus of the Muslims.
