Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “That is a statement you make with your mouths”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
That is a statement you make with your mouths ذَلِكُمْ قَوْلُكُمْ بِأَفْوَاهِكُمْ
That is, the Jews and the hypocrites. The author intends for the address here to be directed at the Jews and the hypocrites, but the correct view is that it applies to anyone who claims a person as their son who is not their father, whether that person is a hypocrite, a Jew, a polytheist, or a Muslim. This is a statement a person makes with his mouth, not a reality; he himself knows that this adopted son is not the son of the one to whom he is claiming him. So how can he say something he believes to be the opposite? And his saying
That is. ذلكم
uses the plural pronoun in the address because the addressees are a group. We have previously mentioned regarding the demonstrative pronoun that it takes into account the referent, and the letter kaf takes into account the addressee. Here, the referent is a singular masculine noun, which is a man’s claim to someone other than his father, and the addressees are a group of males. Yes.

The Shaykh : This is what you will discuss in the benefits, if Allah wills.
That is a statement you make with your mouths ذَلِكُمْ قَوْلُكُمْ بِأَفْوَاهِكُمْ
Meaning, you say it with your tongues while you know the truth is that it is not so. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “That is, the Jews and the hypocrites.” Why did he use the yaa? Because it is an explanation of his saying:
Your statement قَوْلُكُمْ
with the kaf, and it is in the genitive case. They said that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married Zaynab bint Jahsh, who had been the wife of Zayd ibn Harithah, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had adopted, they said, “Muhammad married the wife of his son.” So Allah the Exalted refuted them in that.
The student: ...
The Shaykh : They said, “Muhammad married the wife of his son.” The author’s statement is far from the apparent meaning of the verse, for the author’s statement implies that after the Prophet (may the prayer and peace of Allah be upon him) married Zaynab bint Jahsh, who was initially with Zayd ibn Harithah, they made this statement. But the verse contains no indication of this story at all. Rather, in the verse, Allah is speaking about what? About adopted sons. Allah the Exalted did not speak of, nor indicate, a man marrying the wife of his adopted son. But this will come to us, if Allah wills, in the verse. The correct view is that the verse is about a person’s attribution to someone other than his father through adoption.
