Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((When armies came to you, We sent against them a wind and armies you did not see))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then he said:
When they came to you إِذْ جَاءَتْكُمْ
This specification does not mean restricting the general blessing in His saying:
the blessing of Allah نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ
but it is like an example of something of this blessing
when armies came to [attack] you
[Al-Ahzab 33:9]
When إذ
meaning when armies came to you, and this blessing was singled out for mention because it is a great blessing, as will become clear from the depiction of Allah the Mighty and Majestic of it. He said:
when armies came to [attack] you
[Al-Ahzab 33:9]
The word
armies جنود
is indefinite, but it is intended to convey magnification and multiplication, meaning when many armies came to you. These armies are the confederates from among the polytheists and the Jews who confederated to fight the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This battle took place... in the fifth year of the Hijrah in Shawwal, according to the correct and well-known opinion, because it is known that Uhud was in the third year of the Hijrah in Shawwal, and the following year was a truce with Quraysh, but they did not show up. Then in the third year, which is the fifth, the Battle of the Confederates occurred. The cause was that the nobles of Banu Nadir, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had expelled from Madinah, undoubtedly had their hearts filled with hatred and enmity toward the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When they saw the victory of Quraysh at Uhud, they wanted to exploit this situation, so they went to Quraysh and incited them to fight the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), promising to support them with all their ability and to contact Banu Qurayza, who remained in Madinah, to contact Banu Qurayza in order to help them fight the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So great confederates gathered, estimated at ten thousand fighters, with equipment, weapons, and supplies, and they arrived at Madinah. When the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) learned of them, he took great interest in the matter. However, the interest of the Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) does not mean cowardice, weakness, or frailty, but it means preparation and taking caution by following the directives of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. Indeed, Allah the Exalted always warns of enemies and commands us to prepare against them whatever strength we can. So he went out with his companions with only three thousand fighters, or it is said less than that, until some said seven hundred fighters. They camped at Sulal and placed it behind their backs, and they dug the trench on the advice of Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) from the eastern Harrah to the western Harrah. They dug it despite the exhaustion, fatigue, hardship, hunger, and cold they were suffering. The Messenger (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) was digging with them until the dirt covered the skin of his belly (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him). He was repeating with them
O God, there is no life, but the life of the Hereafter, So forgive Thou the Ansar and the Muhajirs.
Sahih Muslim 1805a

and he was also repeating his saying:
O Allah, if not for You, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor would we have prayed. So send down tranquility upon us and make firm our feet if we meet them. Indeed, those people have transgressed against us, and if they wanted to mislead us, we refused.

because this recitation in this place stirs up the spirits and energizes them. And he would extend his voice with the word "We refused." The important thing is that many things happened there, which is not the place to mention them, but they indicate great trials that befell the Muslims, and yet they were patient. When the confederates descended, they descended from the east and the west
from above you and from below you
[Al-Ahzab: 10]. Then Allah the Mighty and Majestic, by His wisdom, tested the Muslims by increasing the affliction, which was that Banu Nadir contacted Banu Qurayza and asked them to break the covenant between them and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Banu Qurayza hesitated and said: "How can we break the covenant between us and Muhammad, and these armies you have brought are not in a place for their residence or settlement. If they see victory, they will share the spoils with us, and if they see defeat, they will go to their lands and we will remain under the authority of Muhammad." This is reasonable speech, but it is reasonable only from a worldly perspective. They refused to share with them, but they persisted with them until they enticed them and they broke the covenant. This increased the hardship for the Muslims. But Allah the Mighty and Majestic said in His Book:
Indeed, Allah defends those who have believed
[Al-Hajj: 38]. And when Allah the Exalted defends a person, do not ask about his condition, for he is in a secure fortress by the defense of Allah the Sublime and Exalted. For this reason, He mentions this blessing to the believers:
when armies came to [attack] you
[Al-Ahzab 33:9]
The indefiniteness here is for magnification and multitude, meaning many armies. But how were they met?
and We sent upon them a wind and armies [of angels] you did not see
[Al-Ahzab 33:9]
The wind. Allah the Mighty and Majestic unleashed this severe eastern wind, meaning Allah the Exalted made a severe, great, and cold wind that tore down their tents and overturned their pots, and the stones were throwing at them as if they were being stoned. The wind began to carry stones and strike their pots, their horses, their camels, and their bodies as well. They were greatly disturbed. And the other armies, the angels, shook them and cast terror into their hearts. They did not fight because no fighting took place, but they shook them by the hand of Allah the Mighty and Majestic.
