Discussion of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((And the patient men and the patient women...))

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
So, how many types of patience are there? There are three types of patience: patience in obeying Allah, patience in refraining from His disobedience, and patience with His painful decrees.
So what do you say about the patience of Ayyub (peace be upon him), Ghanim? Which type of patience was the patience of Ayyub?
The student: From the three?

The Shaykh : And what are they?
The student: Patience in obeying Allah.

The Shaykh : By what?
The student: In truth, it was patience with the decrees of Allah.

The Shaykh : We want nothing but the truth. His patience with the harm that befell him falls under the category of patience with the decrees of Allah. Now, what does the brother say about the patience of Yusuf in refraining from committing a sin with the wife of the Aziz?
The student: Patience in refraining from the disobedience of Allah.

The Shaykh : Patience in refraining from the disobedience of Allah, good. What do you say, O Isa ibn Salim, about the patience of Yusuf with the pain of imprisonment and its harm?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : It was... it ended for him, but the fact that he was imprisoned and suffered and was harmed, and he was patient with...
The student: The painful decrees of Allah.

The Shaykh : The painful decrees of Allah. Did Yusuf have patience in obeying Allah?
The student: ...
My Lord, prison is more to my liking than that to which they invite me رب السجن أحب إلي مما يدعونني إليه
[Yusuf 12:33]
This indicates...

The Shaykh : Also, his calling the people of the prison to the worship of Allah and to the oneness of Allah is from the patience in obeying Allah. So the three types of patience gathered in his case. And so it is that the types of patience are found in many of the servants of Allah. Yes, so the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was patient in obeying Allah, in refraining from His disobedience, and with His decrees, and this is a great deal. Now, is patience obligatory or recommended? Patience is obligatory, because we said that restraining the self is from?
The student: ...
The Shaykh : No, the general meaning of patience is restraining the self from complaining and hating the decrees of Allah. We did not say the Shari'ah of Allah, but the decrees of Allah, which includes patience with His painful decrees. So patience is obligatory, and there is much reward in it. Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account." إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
[Al-Zumar: 10]. And for this reason, Allah the Exalted said regarding fasting:
Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied for him, between ten and seven hundred times for each merit. Allah said: 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward for it.' كل عمل ابن آدم له الحسنة بعشر أمثالها إلا الصوم فإنه لي وأنا أجزي به
Sunan Ibn Majah 3823
Because in truth, fasting gathers the three types of patience: it is patience in obeying Allah, patience in refraining from His disobedience, and patience with His painful decrees. So we ask Fahd to analyze these three types in fasting for us?
The student: Patience in obeying Allah, because Allah commanded him...

The Shaykh : Because what do you say? Because Allah commanded him to do it? You are patient, we have not finished with you yet. Patience in obeying Allah, why?
The student: Because Allah commanded it.

The Shaykh : Because he was patient with fasting and restrained himself to be content with it, so he fasted. And he was patient in refraining from the disobedience of Allah.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : No, the one who is fasting is commanded to avoid many things, so he avoided them. So it is patience in refraining from the disobedience of Allah. Patience with the decrees of Allah.
The student: ...
The Shaykh : You fasted this year in Ramadan.
The student: ...
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, you were hungry and thirsty and suffered from this hunger and thirst. So it is patience with the painful decrees of Allah. So it contains the three types of patience: patience in obeying Allah, patience in refraining from the disobedience of Allah, and patience with the painful decrees of Allah.
