The Virtue of Patience and the Patient

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Perhaps it is good fortune, O Shaykh, that I have before me right now a letter from our brother Shuqay Muhammad Abu Sa'd, who works in Iraq and is from the Qadisiyyah Governorate. Our brother says: Please tell us, if you would be so kind, about what Allah has promised the patient in this world and the workers in the Hereafter. He previously asked about what a person must do regarding this world, the love of it, and its pleasures?
Answer: Yes, Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) created the creation to worship Him alone, having no partner, to obey His commands and refrain from His prohibitions, and to increase in His remembrance (Glorified and Exalted is He), as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 56]. And His worship is His tawhid (the oneness of Allah) through supplication to Him, fear of Him, and hope in Him, and through prayer, fasting, and other acts. It is obeying His commands and leaving His prohibitions. He has promised them for that much good and a good outcome in this world, and He has promised them Paradise and honor in the Hereafter. So He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
So be patient; indeed, the [best] outcome is for the righteous.
[Surat Hud: 49]. And He said:
And give good tidings to the patient
"Those who, when a calamity strikes them, say: 'Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed, to Him we are returning.' Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy, and those are the ones who are the guided." [Surat al-Baqarah: 155-157]. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account."إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ
[Surat al-Zumar: 10]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1469
. So the patient person has a good outcome in this world and a good outcome in the Hereafter, if he is patient in taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) and obedience to Him, and is patient with what he is tested with from the hardship of life, such as poverty, illness, the empowerment of some enemies, and the like.
So patience has a good outcome. Allah the Exalted said regarding the believers and their enemy, He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:
And if you are patient and fear Allah, their plot will not harm you at all. Indeed, Allah is encompassing of what they do.
[Surat Ali 'Imran: 120]. So patience has good outcomes in obedience to Allah and in calamities, with faith and taqwa (mindfulness of Allah). So its companion is in this world in goodness, with a tranquil conscience and a tranquil heart, rewarded and given reward. And in the Hereafter, he is in the abode of honor, in the abode of bliss, in Paradise; if he is upright upon the command of Allah, and adheres to His taqwa (mindfulness of Allah), Glorified and Exalted is He, and strives against his soul for Allah, and is patient with what he is tested with from need, poverty, and arduous works, and so on. All of this is in the path of Allah, and Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
