Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And those who remember Allah much, and the women who remember [Him]”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do soوَالذَّاكِرِينَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَالذَّاكِرَاتِ
[Al-Ahzab 33:35]
The noble verse concludes with this great description, which is the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). It encompasses every act of worship; every act of worship is a remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Even your study of knowledge is a remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). For this reason, circles of knowledge are called circles of remembrance or gatherings of remembrance. So whatever brings one closer to Allah, every act of worship, is a remembrance of Allah. The remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is done with the heart, with the tongue, and with the limbs. In the heart, it is reflection; in the tongue, it is speech; and in the limbs, it is action and work. Which is better: remembering Allah with the tongue, with the heart, or with the limbs?
The student: All of them...
The Shaykh : There is no doubt that combining them is better. This is known. Yes.
The student: With the heart.

The Shaykh : The heart alone is not sufficient, the tongue alone is not sufficient, and the limbs alone are not sufficient. That is to say, if a person reflects on the verses of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and on His names and attributes, but he does not remember Allah, would he be a Muslim? No, he must say it. If he says, “There is no deity but Allah,” and likewise with regard to the limbs. But there is no doubt that... remembrance with the heart has a very great effect, because the criterion is the heart. And there is no doubt that the impact of remembering Allah with the heart is more effective in strengthening faith and in drawing near to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) than remembering with what? With the limbs, because the whole criterion is what is in the heart, not with regard to the works and the foundation of the works, nor with regard to the reward, as Allah the Exalted said:
(9) The Day when secrets will be put on trial, (10) Then man will have no power or any helper.
[Al-Tariq 9:10]. The remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is absolute at all times, and it is restricted by conditions, restricted by places, and restricted by times. So it is of four types, which are:
The student: Restricted by words?

The Shaykh : By words, it is a remembrance of Allah. And remembrance can be absolute, restricted by times, restricted by what? By places, restricted by conditions. So you are obligated to close...
As for the absolute: Allah the Exalted said:
(190) Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding. (191) Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], "Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire. إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الأَلْبَابِ * الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ
[Al-Imran:191]. This is at all times, in all states. And He said:
(41) O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance (42) And exalt Him morning and afternoon.
[Al-Ahzab 41:42], as in this verse:
the men who remember Allah often
[Al-Ahzab 33:35]
.
Restricted by time: What is an example of it? Like after the prayers; this is restricted by time. And likewise supplication at the beginning of the day, or remembrance at the beginning of the day and at its end:
and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,
[Qaf:39].
Restricted by places: Like entering the mosque, entering the home, and leaving it, stoning the pillars, and riding in cars. Not riding in cars, but a place? Okay.
As for what is restricted by a certain condition: It is also numerous, such as during distress and sadness, and during eating and drinking, and the like. What prayer?
...
The prayer for rain. Yes, that is right.
The student: Riding a mount?

The Shaykh : By Allah, riding. The brothers say it is restricted by a place. In any case, remembrance is either absolute or restricted. And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) prescribed for His servants that so they would always be in the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), even when putting on clothing, when eating and drinking, and when finishing them.
and the men who remember Allah often and the women who do so
[Al-Ahzab 33:35]
