Commentary on Tafsir al-Jalalayn: “And they say, ‘Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?’” Regarding the two hamzas, what has been mentioned previously applies. That is, is it for the sake of Muhammad’s statement?

And they say, with their psychological arrogance, with their tongues: Regarding the two hamzas, what has been mentioned previously applies. What was mentioned previously? Four readings or six? Four, according to what the author stated: that the two hamzas are realized, that the second is eased, and that an alif is inserted between them in the case of realization and easing. Well, so we say: This is realization. This is easing. Realization with the insertion of an alif. Easing with the insertion of the alif.
Well,[As-Saffat 37:36] The interrogation here is for negation. They affirmed this negation by saying, “Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?” They affirmed it with the particle in and the lam. That is, is it possible that we would leave our gods for this speaker whom they described with these two things: a poet and a madman? That is, for the sake of the statement of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). That is, it is not possible that we would leave our gods for the sake of the statement of that mad poet. The poet is the one who recites poetry, and the madman is the opposite of the sane person. It is well known that their statement is a lie, and in addition to being a lie, it is contradictory. The point of contradiction is: how can the poet be a madman, or how can the madman be a poet? A madman cannot produce organized prose, so how can he produce poetry that moves the emotions and is said to have come from a poet? But, may Allah protect us, when blindness settles in the heart, a person does not know what he is saying. He may perhaps say something contradictory without knowing it. It is well known that Allah the Exalted refuted them in this statement, so He the Exalted said: [Ya-Sin 36:69] And He the Exalted said: [Al-Qalam 68:1-2] Rather, you are the most sane of the sane. And Allah Mighty and Majestic refuted them in this statement, and they are undoubtedly liars. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the most sane of people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought a statement that is not poetry, but rather he brought the words of Allah Mighty and Majestic: [As-Saffat 37:36] For this reason, Allah the Exalted said: [As-Saffat 37:37]
