The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, they used to be arrogant when it was said to them, ‘There is no god but Allah.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant إنهم كانوا إذا قيل لهم لا إله إلا الله يستكبرون
[As-Saffat 37:35]
is that these criminals are at the extreme of arrogance. When this great word is said to them—a word that, if the heavens and the earth were weighed against it, it would outweigh them—they are arrogant toward it and consider themselves too great in status to say it or to believe in the one who said it. As we mentioned earlier, they are arrogant toward the speaker and the message, meaning toward the news and the one who reported it.
Now, among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation to submit to what this word requires. Allah presented it in the context of the people who were arrogant toward it as a description of blame. Therefore, whoever accepts it and submits to it has removed the blame from himself and fulfilled what is obligatory upon him.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that whoever says “There is no god but Allah” with sincerity must submit to the commands of Allah and not be arrogant. Consequently, many texts link entering Paradise to the saying of “There is no god but Allah.” It is known that entering Paradise does not result from merely saying it, for the hypocrites say it and yet they do not enter Paradise. Rather, the intended meaning is the one who says it while submitting to what this great word requires of following the commands of Allah and avoiding His prohibitions.
