The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Indeed, you will surely taste the painful punishment, and you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Allah Mighty and Majestic said:
You shall taste the painful punishment إنكم لذائقو العذاب الأليم
In this verse and what follows it, there are many benefits:
One of them is that these deniers, or those who are arrogant about saying there is no god but Allah, will taste the punishment, as He said:
Indeed, you will surely taste إنكم لذائقو
This sentence is emphasized in two ways, namely the particle "inna" and the letter "lam."
One of its benefits is that the punishment of these people is direct, just as a person directly experiences his eating, as He said:
you will surely taste the punishment لذائقو العذاب
The original meaning of "tasting" is food that is eaten, but it was then applied to everything that is certain to occur.
One of its benefits is that the punishment of these people, may Allah protect us from it, is painful; "alim" means painful, and it is a pain that the bodies in this world cannot bear even a part of, because they, may Allah protect us from it, are punished with a fire that is ninety times more intense than the fire of this world. Every time their skins are cooked, they are replaced with other skins so that they may taste the punishment. The important point is that it is a painful punishment with a pain that has no parallel in this world and that no human can imagine due to its intensity. We ask Allah to protect us and you from it.
One of the benefits of these verses is the perfection of the justice of Allah Mighty and Majestic, where He made the recompense of the same kind as the deed, as He said:
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - وما تجزون إلا ما كنتم تعملون
[As-Saffat 37:39]
Unlike the kings of this world, the rulers of this world, whose recompense for a deed may be more than what is deserved. A person may become angry and recompense one who has authority over him with more than what is deserved. But Allah Mighty and Majestic does not recompense a person except with his deed.
One of its benefits is the affirmation of recompense, and its necessary consequence is the affirmation of the Resurrection, because the complete recompense for deeds only occurs on the Day of Resurrection. Thus, the verse contains evidence for the affirmation of the Resurrection and the affirmation of recompense.
One of its benefits is the refutation of the Jabriyyah, who say that a person does not act, and that a person's action is not attributed to him because he is compelled. The movement of a person by speech or action is like his involuntary movement, or like the movement of a feather in the air. But this statement is a claim that is refuted by the texts and by reason.
