The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Say, ‘O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord.’”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. قل يا عباد الذين آمنوا اتقوا ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:10]

Among its benefits is that taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is necessary alongside faith, as He said:
O you who have believed, fear
[Al-Baqarah 2:278]
This phrasing,
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. قل يا عباد الذين آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
, was not said by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in these exact words; rather, he would say “O servants of Allah” or a similar phrase. However, Allah the Exalted attributed this to Himself to clarify the sincerity for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in this act of worship.
Among the benefits of this verse is that the Lord, who is the Creator, Owner, and Manager, is the one worthy of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) and none other, as He said in Surat al-Muddaththir:
He is the One worthy of taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) and the One worthy of forgiveness.

Among the benefits is that those who do good in this world will have a good [reward], as He said:
For those who do good in this world is good
[An-Nahl 16:30]
.
Among its benefits is that Allah, by His grace and generosity, hastens the reward for those who deserve it in this world before the Hereafter, because the good of this world is far less than the good of the Hereafter.
Among the benefits of this verse is the obligation of migrating to Allah and His Messenger if a person is in a land of disbelief where he is unable to manifest his religion, as He said:
and the earth of Allah is spacious
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
.
Among its benefits is that establishing the proof is part of calling to Allah and of the excellence of the call, as He said:
and the earth of Allah is spacious
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
Therefore, no one has an excuse to say, “I find no refuge” or “I find no place to migrate to.”
Among its benefits is that the earth belongs to Allah, as He said:
and the earth of Allah is spacious
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
This is similar to what Musa (peace be upon him) said to his people:
Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah. He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants. And the [best] outcome is for the righteous." إنَّ الأرض لله يورثها من يشاء من عباده والعاقبة للمتقين
[Al-A'raf 7:128]
.
Among its benefits is the virtue of patience and that its practitioner will be given his reward without account, as He said:
Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account." إنما يوفى الصابرون أجرهم بغير حساب
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
.
Among its benefits is the generosity of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, in making the reward like a wage, as if it were a transaction in which the worker is compensated, as He said:
Their reward.

Then He said, the Exalted—beginning today’s lesson—:
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion. قل إني أمرت أن أعبد الله مخلصًا له الدين
[Az-Zumar 39:11]
Sayقل
meaning, “O Muhammad,”
I have been commanded.
that is, my Lord commanded me. This form is used in the passive voice because the doer is known. This is similar to the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and him) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones.
Sunan Ibn Majah 883Sahih (Darussalam)
