Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said:
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. قل يا عبادِ الذين آمَنوا اتَّقُوا ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
Sayقل
The address is to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) or to anyone to whom it is valid to direct the address. On the first view, the implied meaning is: Say, O Muhammad. On the second view, the implied meaning is: Say, O human being,
O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord يا عباد الذين آمنوا اتقوا ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
Abbadعباد
Here there is something omitted, namely the yā' indicated by the kasrah in his saying:
O My servants يا عباد
, and the yā' was omitted for the sake of lightness,
Say, "O My servants who have believed, fear your Lord. قل يا عبادِ الذين آمنوا اتقوا ربكم
[Az-Zumar 39:10]
The onesالذين
an explanatory apposition or a description,
those who believe الذين آمنوا
they have faithآمنوا
Faith in language is affirmation or acknowledgment; rather, we say acknowledgment, because it is what corresponds to faith in terms of transitivity and action. It is said: “He acknowledged such and such” and “He believed in such and such.” Affirmation does not fully correspond to it. On this basis, we say: Faith is acknowledgment, but it is not mere acknowledgment, as some of the sects of innovators said. Who are they? The Murji'ah?
The student: The Murji'ah

The Shaykh : The Jahmiyyah are Murji'ah. We say: It is acknowledgment that necessitates acceptance and submission. This is faith. If it does not necessitate acceptance and submission, then it is not faith.
