The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “Have you not seen that Allah has sent down water from the sky and caused it to flow as springs in the earth, then He brings forth thereby crops of various colors, then they wither and you see them yellowing, then He makes them a broken stubble. Indeed, in that is a reminder for those of understanding.”

Allah the Mighty and Majestic says:
And Allah has promised وعد الله
Do you not see that Allah has sent down rain from the sky ألم تر أن الله أنزل من السماء ماء
[Al-Hajj 22:63]
to the end of it. Among the benefits of this verse is the clarification of the power of Allah the Mighty and Majestic in sending down this rain from the sky, because no one is able to send it down. Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain إن الله عنده علم الساعة وينزل الغيث
[Luqman 31:34]

And among its benefits is the wisdom and mercy of Allah in making this water descend from the sky. For if it had sprung from the earth, the general land would not have benefited from it in any way, and it would not have risen to the tops of the mountains unless it flooded the people beneath the mountains. So it was wise that it descends from the sky so that it encompasses both the high and the low, and covers the entire earth.
And among the benefits of this verse is also the clarification of the wisdom of Allah the Mighty and Majestic in the manner of the descent of this water. How does it descend? It descends in drops. If it had descended as a stream, as the mouths of water skins pour out, it would have destroyed the people and demolished the buildings. But out of the mercy of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, it descends in drops. Among the benefits of this verse is that “the sky” is used to denote height. It is used to denote height. And this benefit entails that the saying of the Exalted
Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven أأمنتم من في السماء
[Al-Mulk 67:16]
can be intended to mean from where? What? From the height. Yes.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the clarification of the power and mercy of Allah toward His servants, in that He caused this water to flow as springs in the earth and did not leave it stagnant on its surface, due to the wisdom and mercy in that. It is stored in the earth, and whenever people desire it, they extract it.
And among its benefits, and among the benefits of this verse, is the clarification of the power of Allah in that He brought forth with this water that crop of various colors.
And among its benefits is: the establishment of causes.
then He produces thereby ثم يخرج به
[Az-Zumar 39:21]
The establishment of causes.
And among its benefits is: that the cause does not independently effect the caused. Because of His saying:
then He brings forth ثم يخرج
So He attributed the bringing forth to whom? To Allah. And this is what the Salaf of the Ummah and its imams are upon: that the causes have an effect on the caused, but their effect is by the action of Allah, and it does not return to them independently. Good.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the clarification of the power of Allah the Mighty and Majestic in that He brought forth this crop of various colors, even though it is nourished by one water and from one clay, as He said:
of various colors مختلفا ألوانه
.
And among its benefits is that the perfection of this world is a sign of its decline, because Allah made that an example for this world, as in the verse we cited in the tafsir. Good.
Among the benefits of this verse is: that those who remember by the cosmic signs of Allah are the people of intellect. As for the one who does not remember by them and says, “This is nature that interacts and competes,” he has no intellect.
And among the benefits of this verse is: that it is befitting for a person to use his intellect in the creations of Allah the Mighty and Majestic so that he may remember thereby what is in these creations of the greatness of the Creator, because He is the One who said:
Indeed, in that is a reminder for those of understanding إن فى ذلك لذكرى لأولى الألباب
