Continuation of the interpretation of the noble verse: [An-Nisa 4:9]. If someone were to say: “This is an endowment for my descendants,” the children of daughters would not be included in this endowment, because the children of daughters are not among the descendants. Just as “sons and male children” does not include the children of daughters or the sons of the children of daughters. If someone were to say: “This statement is refuted by Isa ibn Maryam, for Allah the Exalted made him from the descendants of Ibrahim, and he is the son of a daughter,” is that correct? Is he the son of a daughter or not? He is the son of a daughter. The answer to that is that he had no father, so his mother was his father. His mother was his father. For this reason, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) said: The child of fornication is inherited by his mother by fixed share and as a residuary heir, because she is the mother of the father, since he has no father in the Shari'ah. So means children or the children of sons, not the children of daughters. And His saying: means they are unable to earn a livelihood due to their lack of maturity and their young age. So every person, when death approaches him and he has young children, will fear for them and think and consider who will take charge of them after him. But the believer says, as 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) said when he was asked: “Will you not make a bequest for your child?” He said: “If my child is righteous, then Allah takes charge of the righteous, as He the Exalted said: [Al-A'raf 7:196] And if the other is the case, I will not assist him in his corruption.” Sharp is the wit, and severe is the answer. So I say that the weak among the children is the young one, or the insane one, or the spendthrift who has no maturity and cannot manage his own affairs. And His saying: from what? From being lost and the consumption of their wealth. And taqwa is taking protection from the punishment of Allah by doing His commands and avoiding His prohibitions. This is the most comprehensive of what has been said about taqwa. And this is when taqwa is used in its absolute form and isolated. But if it is qualified, then it is according to what it is qualified with. For example, His saying the Exalted: [Al-Baqarah 2:281] And likewise, when it is paired with righteousness, its meaning becomes: avoiding sins. And the meaning of righteousness is: doing obedience, doing the commands. But if it is used in its absolute form, it includes both this and that. meaning they should take protection from it, from His punishment. [An-Nisa 4:9] [An-Nisa 4:9] What is the just word? The just word is what fills its place, meaning what is correct and in accordance with wisdom. Pay attention! The just word is what fills its place by being correct and in accordance with wisdom. Not every soft word is considered just, and not every harsh word is considered just. The justness may be in harshness, harshness of speech, or it may be in softness of speech. And look at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) how he sometimes is harsh in his speech and how he sometimes is soft in his speech. And his (peace and blessings be upon him) speech is all justness and all just without a doubt. So the just is not to be soft in speech, nor to be harsh with it, but that your speech be correct and in accordance with wisdom. And wisdom varies according to the circumstances, according to the people, and according to the subject of the speech. If a man wanted to preach to a people who have transgressed against themselves and fallen into prohibitions, what is the justness in his sermon? That the sermon be strong, with emotion, and with severe warning, as if he is an army saying: “Woe to you and misery to you.” And if he is preaching to a people who are not of that sort, and they do not see harshness in speech, and perhaps it would repel them, then in this case he softens his speech to them. So the just word is what fills its place by being correct and in accordance with wisdom. Has the mention of the just word come in other than this verse? Yes. [Al-Ahzab 33:70] Here. [An-Nisa 4:9] What is the result of fearing Allah and saying the just word? The result, Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ahzab 33:71] The result is what is most beloved of results. Religious and worldly. [Ali 'Imran 3:31] meaning what you have committed. It is upon us to take these divine directives and commands, so we fear Allah and say a just word.
