The benefits of the verse: “Indeed, those who consume the property of orphans unjustly only consume fire into their bellies, and they will enter the Blazing Fire.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the obligation to care for the property of orphans, based on His saying:
are only consuming into their bellies fire
[An-Nisa 4:10]
. It has been previously stated that an orphan is one whose father has died and who has not reached puberty. Another benefit is that if one consumes an orphan’s property with a right, there is no sin upon him; for example, if he is poor, he may take the amount of his wage from this property over which he is the guardian, and there is no blame on him. For this reason, we say that the word “unjustly” is a verbal noun in the position of a circumstantial phrase, meaning “the wrongdoers.” Another benefit is that consuming an orphan’s property without a right is among the major sins, because a threat is issued against it in His saying:
are only consuming into their bellies fire
[An-Nisa 4:10]
. The scholars state that a major sin is one for which there is a fixed punishment in this world or a threat in the Hereafter. It has also been said that a major sin is one for which a specific punishment is mentioned. This is because prohibitions are of two types: a type that contains only a prohibition, and another type in which a specific punishment is mentioned, whether worldly, religious, or pertaining to the Hereafter. The worldly type is like the fixed punishments, such as for unlawful sexual intercourse and theft. The religious type is like disavowal from him, as in
He who slaps his cheeks, tears his clothes and follows the ways and traditions of the Days of Ignorance is not one of us.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1294
. The Hereafter type is the punishment, as in this verse. Another benefit is the affirmation of recompense, based on His saying:
are only consuming into their bellies fire
[An-Nisa 4:10]
. Another benefit is that recompense is of the same kind as the deed, because He compared their consumption to the fire with which they will be punished. Another benefit is the severe threat against the one who consumes an orphan’s property, stating that he will enter the Blazing Fire. This is greater than His saying:
are only consuming into their bellies fire
[An-Nisa 4:10]
, so the heat will be in their bellies and on the outside of their bodies, based on His saying:
and they will enter the Blazing Fire وسيصلون سعيرا
.
