Allah the Exalted said: “And the Jews and the Christians say, ‘We are the sons of Allah and His beloved ones.’ Say, ‘Then why does He punish you for your sins? Rather, you are human beings from among those He created. He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and to Him is the return.’”

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:17] We said that they are Christians, and this verse is explicit in that they are disbelievers. We spoke at length about this, which has no bearing on exegesis but has a bearing on reality. Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the women of the People of the Book, even if they are disbelievers, are permissible to marry, as they are affiliated with the People of the Book. This is contrary to the view of some scholars who said that since they altered, changed, and associated partners with Allah, their women are forbidden. The correct view is that their women are permissible, even if they have altered, changed, become disbelievers, and associated partners with Allah, just as their food is permissible. Among the benefits of this noble verse is refuting the people of falsehood with auditory and rational evidence, for Allah refuted them with auditory and rational evidence. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the clarification of the perfection of the dominion of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and that no one can prevent Him from what He wills, as He said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:17]. Among its benefits is that in a debate, one should begin with the first argument of the debater, which is contrary to what he is debating. The point is that Allah began by mentioning the destruction of Jesus and his mother, whom these people believe to be a god. Among the benefits of this noble verse is the universality of the dominion of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, as He said: . Among its benefits is the exclusivity of this dominion to Allah, as He said: . The indication is that He placed the statement first, and it is an established principle among the people of rhetoric and the people of principles that placing what is due to be delayed first implies exclusivity. If someone says, “Allah attributed dominion to others in more than one verse of the Book of Allah, so how is this reconciled?” We say that the dominion Allah attributed to others is limited in all respects, such as His saying: [Al-Mu'minun 23:6], and His saying: [An-Nur 24:61], and His saying: [An-Nur 24:33]. There are multiple verses in this regard. It is said that the dominion attributed to the created is not like the dominion of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. It is a limited dominion that does not encompass all that is owned, and it is also limited in the ability to dispose of it, for a person does not have the right to dispose of his property as he wishes. If a person wanted to destroy his wealth and said, “This is my property, and I have the right to destroy it,” we would say, “It is forbidden for you; you do not have the right to destroy it, for the Shari'ah forbids the squandering of wealth.” And if he wanted to encroach upon the property of another, we would say, “It is not possible, for your dominion is limited.” By this, we know that the complete dominion is the dominion of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Among the benefits of the noble verse is the indication that what is between the heavens and the earth is a great creation, such that Allah, the Exalted, made it equal to, or if you wish, a counterpart to, the heavens and the earth. Its evidence is: [Al-Ma'idah 5:17]. Among the benefits of the noble verse is that Allah, the Exalted, has absolute will, as He said: [Ali 'Imran 3:47]. Allah, the Exalted, explained this in some places, such as His saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:49-50]. This is part of the perfection of His dominion and the completeness of His creation. Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the actions of the servants are created, for if Allah is the Owner of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, and He creates whom He wills, then the human being is among what is in the heavens and the earth, so his actions are created by Allah.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.[Al-Ma'idah 5:18-19]
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan. We proceeded to His saying: and we took its benefits.
They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary
Say, "Then who could prevent Allah at all if He had intended to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?"
And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth
And to Allah
وللهExcept from their wives or those their right hands possess
إلا على أزواجهم أو ما ملكت أيمانهم[from houses] whose keys you possess
And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess
والذين يبتغون الكتاب ما ملكت أيمانهمto Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them
He creates what He wills
(49) To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males. (50) Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
(18) But the Jews and the Christians say, "We are the children of Allah and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?" Rather, you are human beings from among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the [final] destination. (19) O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger to make clear to you [the religion] after a period [of suspension] of messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner." But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allah is over all things competent.
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan.
