The questioner : His last and final question in this session is: Is it possible for me to pray the congregational prayer at home with my brothers instead of going to the mosque?

The Shaykh : The correct view among the scholars is that it is not permissible for you to pray in congregation in your house; rather, you must go to the mosque, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
I thought to give orders for arranging prayer in congregation, and then to have the Iqamah called for it, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, then to go off in company of the people who have bundles of firewood to those people who are not present at the prayer and then to burn down their houses with fire.
Sunan Abi Dawud 548Sahih (Al-Albani)
The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not elaborate or specify regarding these people who lagged behind in prayer; he did not specify whether they were praying in congregation alone or praying individually. Therefore, it is obligatory for a person to pray in congregation in the mosques that were built for that purpose.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, if it is assumed that he forgot, or did not hear the adhan, or something similar, such that he became convinced that the people had left the mosque, then he may pray in congregation in his house. Yes.

The questioner : Yes, thank you. May Allah reward you.
