The questioner : The questioner says: I am an Arab citizen working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and I am working with my Saudi sponsor in the best manner. A while ago, I was presented with an opportunity for external work, meaning work away from the institution. As a result of this work, I received a wage, and this was without the knowledge of the sponsor. Allah knows that I was in need of this amount. So I ask: Is this amount that I received forbidden, given that one of the conditions of the contract states that one must not work for others, whether for a wage or without one? Please inform us, may Allah guide you to the guidance of the Muslims?

The Shaykh : We say that since there is a condition between you and your sponsor that you not work for anyone else, whether for a wage or without one, it is not permissible for you to work for anyone else for a wage.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : If you did so, it is forbidden for you, and it is obligatory for you in such a situation to inform your sponsor of what you did, because your action is contrary to the command of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا أَوْفُوا بِالْعُقُودِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:1]
The command to fulfill contracts is a command to fulfill their essence and their description, which are the conditions stipulated in them, provided they do not contradict the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, it is obligatory for you to consult your sponsor regarding this matter. Yes.

The questioner : This message reached us from the listener Adnan Sa'di Duhok from Iraq. In fact, we thank you, my brother Adnan, for your message and the goodwill and admiration it carries, and we hope to live up to your good opinion. May Allah guide you and increase your diligence.
