And we disavow the method of those who distort it, who have turned it away from what Allah and His Messenger intended by it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : For this reason, he said: "And we disavow the method of those who distort it, who have turned it away from what Allah and His Messenger intended by it".
We disavow this path; we disavow it with our hearts, our tongues, and our conduct, from the path of these people who have turned it away from what Allah and His Messenger intended by it.
Let us make the example one, so that the mind does not become scattered.
Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne إن ربكم الله الذي خلق السموات والأرض في ستة أيام ثم استوى على العرش
[Al-A'raf 7:54]
We said: "He rose above the Throne" means: He is high above it.
Is it like the height of a man above a bed? No, because that is not befitting of Allah. He is high above it in a manner befitting His Majesty, Mighty and Majestic.
Now, someone said: "He rose above the Throne" means "He took control of it." We disavow the path of these people; we disavow it and consider them to be upon misguidance. Why? Because they turned it away from what Allah and His Messenger intended by it; they turned it away from what Allah and His Messenger intended by it.
So if someone asks: What is your evidence that Allah the Exalted intended by His saying:
He settled upon the Throne استوى على العرش
meaning: He is high above it? Is it not permissible that what Allah intended is that He took control of it?
The answer is: No, it is not permissible. Because if that were permissible, then Allah the Exalted would not have made the Qur'an a clarification, nor would He have made it a criterion of distinction. For Allah revealed the Qur'an in a clear Arabic language, and the clear Arabic language necessitates that the meaning of His saying:
He settled upon the Throne استوى على العرش
is: He is high above it, and nothing else.
So those who said "He took control of it" have turned it away from what Allah intended. We bear witness to this before Allah, Mighty and Majestic, that they turned it away from what Allah intended. And we bear witness that Allah did not intend by His saying
Istawa (He rose) استوى
what? "He took control of it."
So if someone asks: This is a great testimony. How can you be certain of it?
I say: I am certain of it by the command of Allah, Mighty and Majestic:
Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an إنا جعلنا قرآنا عربيا
Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you اتبعوا ما أنزل إليكم
[Al-A'raf 7:3]
So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, commanded us to follow the Qur'an as it was revealed in the Arabic language. And it was revealed in the Arabic language with what? With the meaning that "He rose above" means what? It means "He is high above." So I bear witness upon Allah that He intended by His saying:
He settled upon the Throne استوى على العرش
meaning: He is high above it. I bear witness upon Allah to this, because He commanded me to do so; He commanded me to follow what was revealed to me according to the requirements of the Arabic language.
Be careful, my brothers. Do not be alarmed if someone asks: How do you bear this testimony? This is a great testimony?
I say: Yes, I bear witness upon Allah by the command of Allah, because Allah said:
Follow, [O mankind], what has been revealed to you اتبعوا ما أنزل إليكم
[Al-A'raf 7:3]
This is what was revealed to us; it was revealed to us
In a clear Arabic language. بلسان عربي مبين
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:195]
, and this is the meaning of "He rose above," which is "He is high above" in the clear Arabic language.
So we disavow the path of those who distort the words from their places and turn the meaning away from what Allah and His Messenger intended.
Like whom? The Asha'irah, the Mu'tazilah, the Jahmiyyah, and whoever follows their path. All of these are distorters of the words from their places, and they have fallen into what the nations before us fell into. Now.
