Peace of the soul and tranquility of the heart, for when one knows that it is by the decree of Allah the Exalted

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"Second: Peace of the soul and tranquility of the heart, for when one knows that it is by the decree of Allah the Exalted, and that what is disliked will inevitably occur, the soul finds peace, the heart becomes tranquil, and one is content with the decree of the Lord. No one has a sweeter life, a more peaceful soul, or a stronger tranquility than the one who believes in the divine decree".
This is very important; it is the peace of the soul and tranquility of the heart when something disliked occurs.
If you strive through the means and what you dislike happens, and what you want does not happen, and you are a believer in the divine decree, what is your position then? It is submission and contentment, and you say: This is what Allah has decreed, and the situation cannot be changed from what it is. So you find peace and say: If this is what my Lord is doing to me, then I am His slave, belonging to Him, and He does with me what He wills. So you find peace, you settle down, you do not regret, and you do the means of salvation that Allah has made means.
But if you do not believe in the divine decree, you cannot be patient. For this reason, look at the people who did not believe in the divine decree; when they are struck by a calamity, what do they do?
The student: They commit suicide.

The Shaykh : They commit suicide, they kill themselves. But if they commit suicide, do they escape from what they are in? No, they fall into what is more severe. They are like the one who seeks shelter from the scorching heat in the fire. This poor person does not think that if he kills himself like a sheep or a beast, his affair is over. Rather, he moves to the abode of retribution, and his retribution for killing himself is that he will be tortured with what he killed himself with in the Hellfire, abiding therein eternally, and refuge is sought in Allah. But people like these do not believe in that.
The important thing is that belief in the divine decree and destiny necessitates what?
The student: It necessitates peace of the soul and tranquility of the heart.

The Shaykh : Peace of the soul and tranquility of the heart.
Perhaps, for example, a person strives, perhaps a person strives to obtain something, then the divine decree, I mean the decree of Allah, intervenes between him and this thing. You find him regretting and being affected, but he later finds that the good is in what Allah has decreed.
A few years ago, a Saudi plane caught fire after it took off from Riyadh Airport, then it returned to extinguish the fire, but the decree of Allah and what He willed happened. The fire destroyed it and those in it. The fire destroyed it and those in it, even though its pilot did every cause by which safety could be achieved. But the decree had passed. Among the passengers was a man waiting for the announcement to board the plane. Sleep overtook him, and the plane was announced, and Allah knows best, that his sleep was heavy. Otherwise, Riyadh Airport, praise be to Allah, when it announces, it pierces the ear. But his sleep was heavy. When he woke up, he found that the people had boarded. He went to the airport staff to rebuke and blame them, saying how, how, I was in the place of waiting, why did no one come to wake me? During that, it was announced that the plane had landed at the airport and caught fire. Glory be to Allah! This was a decree of salvation for him, but he initially disliked it. He disliked what? That he had been left behind. But his being left behind was good for him, good for him if Allah wills. If his remaining in this world increases his good, otherwise, perhaps a long life is evil.
He whose life is long and his deeds are bad. شر الناس من طال عمره وساء عمله
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2330Hasan (Darussalam)
.
The important thing is that if a person believes in the divine decree, he finds peace.
perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good. وعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا ويجعل الله فيه خيرا كثيرا
[An-Nisa 4:19]
For if you dislike them - perhaps you dislike a thing and Allah makes therein much good. فإن كرهتموهن فعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا ويجعل الله فيه خيرا كثيرا
[An-Nisa 4:19]
The noble verse: "Perhaps you dislike them, but Allah may make for you much good in them." If the verse had been like this, the much good would have been specific to women. But it said:
So perhaps you dislike a thing فعسى أن تكرهوا شيئا
meaning whatever thing occurs,
and Allah makes therein much good. ويجعل الله فيه خيرا كثيرا
[An-Nisa 4:19]
.
Yes, he says: And his saying "that what is disliked will inevitably occur". What is disliked means the reality that will inevitably occur and cannot be removed. If it cannot be removed, what is the benefit of sadness, anxiety, mental fatigue, and the estimates that Satan dictates to a person, such as "if only you had not done it" or "if you had not done it, such and such would have happened," and the like of what is known.
On this occasion, I mention a phrase that some people have loved in our time, which is "Praise be to Allah who is not praised for anything disliked other than this". This is wrong. Did the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) say that? Never. And this indicates an objection to the divine decree, that you have not accepted the divine decree but it is forced upon you. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), when something he did not like happened, would say:
Al-Hamdulillah 'Ala Kulli Hal (All praise is due to Allah in every circumstance). الحمد لله على كل حال
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2738Hasan (Darussalam)
. Look at the good word. He does not attribute the disliked thing while he is supplicating to Allah Mighty and Majestic, and he declares that it is disliked, as if he is objecting to the divine decree. Then he says that he praises Allah for it. Well, praise Allah in all circumstances. And when something that pleased him happened, he would say:
Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi bi ni'matihi tatimmus-salihat (Praise is to Allah by Whose grace good deeds are completed) الحمد لله الذي بنعمته تتم الصالحات
Sunan Ibn Majah 3803Da'if (Darussalam)
, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
He says: "the soul found peace and the heart became tranquil" and the person was content "and was content with the decree of the Lord, so no one has a sweeter life, a more peaceful soul, or a stronger tranquility than the one who believes in the divine decree". And the author spoke the truth.
And I think we have a few minutes left to finish, right?
The student: We continue, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : We finish? Okay. Left?
The student: One minute.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
The student: We continue, O Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Less than a minute, okay. If we finish tomorrow, will we have a lesson?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Yes? Tafsir, okay, there is nothing wrong with it.
