The questioner : His second question states that some Muslims claim that the Prophet of Allah, Khidr (peace be upon him), is still alive, roaming the earth, and that if he passes by a person and asks him for kindness, and he provides it, then if that person is poor, he becomes rich. He comes to people in the guise of a madman so that they do not recognize him.

The Shaykh : We seek refuge in Allah.

The questioner : Many people have come to offer kindness to anyone who comes to them in such a state, assuming that it is Khidr (peace be upon him). Is this legendary claim found in the noble hadith?

The Shaykh : The discussion of this question is from two angles.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : First, the statementThe questioner : That the Prophet of Allah is Khidr, and his assertion that he is a prophet, is a matter of disagreement among the scholars. Was Khidr a prophet, or was he a wali (close friend of Allah) to whom Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) granted miracles by which it became known what occurred between him and Musa (peace be upon him)? The stronger position is that he is not a prophet, but rather a wali among the awliya (close friends of Allah), based on evidence which is not the place to elaborate here.
The second angle is regarding the survival of this man, namely Khidr, until now. This is absolutely incorrect. If Khidr were alive, it would be obligatory for him to come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), believe in him, and follow him. Even if he were alive, on the assumption that he is alive, he would have died as well, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed his Companions at the end of his life that within a hundred years, no one who is on the face of the earth that day will remain. So if it were assumed that Khidr remained until the mission of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), it would not be possible for him to remain after the hundred years about which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed. Therefore, Khidr does not exist and is not present. Furthermore, this false claim necessitates mockery and ridicule, as it states that he comes to people in the image of a madman so that he is not recognized, and that whoever gives him something or presents a gift to him becomes rich. This is false, and whoever refutes the falsehood also refutes this. It is important that the believer must believe that Khidr is not present, based on the two evidence we mentioned previously: that if he were present, he would have no choice but to come to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), believe in him, and follow him; and that if he were present, he would die before the hundred years about which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
