The questioner : He says: I am a man who owns a car and a van. A man carrying goods worth eight hundred riyals rode with me, so I took him to the place he wanted. When he got out, he forgot his need and left, and I also left without knowing about it. When I arrived at my house, I saw the goods in the car, so I went quickly to look for their owner, hoping to catch up with him, but I did not find him. I searched for him for a week and did not find him either. Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good. What should I do with this goods that is in my possession?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for you regarding this goods to search for it and announce it through the means of advertising customary in your country. If a year passes and its owner does not come, then it is yours, because its ruling is the ruling of lost property, since you do not know its owner. However, if you knew him, it is obligatory for you to announce his name so that he comes to you and you hand over his money to him. Yes.
