In Sahih Muslim: (Whoever intends to do a bad deed but does not do it, it is forgiven for him as long as he does not do it). How is this reconciled with the hadith: (The killer and the killed are in the Fire)?

The questioner : In the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in Sahih Muslim, O Shaykh, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And he who intended evil, but did not commit it, no entry was made against his name ومن هم بسيئة فلم يعملها فأنا أغفرها له
Sahih Muslim 130
And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
I forgive that. But if he commits it, I record one evil against his name فأنا أغفرها له ما لم يعملها فإن عملها فأنا أكتبها له
Sahih Muslim 129
.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : So how do you say that it is recorded for him even if he intended to do it?

The Shaykh : Intended means if he intended, if he intended to do the bad deed, then if he did the causes but was unable, this is recorded for him as a complete bad deed. And if he intended the bad deed and left it for the sake of Allah, after he intended he left it for the sake of Allah, he reconsidered and left it for the sake of Allah, then a good deed is recorded for him. And if he intended the bad deed and then left it not for the sake of Allah, and not because he was unable, but because he was pleased to leave it, then it is forgiven for him, the intention is forgiven for him, and nothing is recorded against him. The issue requires detail. Yes.
