Q315: The questioner says: If a person intends to do evil but does not do it, is anything recorded against him or not?
A315: It is reported in the hadith that if a Muslim intends to do evil but does not do it, a good deed is recorded for him, provided he left it out of fear of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). However, if he left it because he was unable to carry it out, and if he had been able to, he would have done it, then he is to be feared regarding sin due to his intention. As for the one who left the evil and did not do it out of fear of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and out of aversion to that evil, and by turning away from it, he is rewarded for this, and a good deed is recorded for him, as reported in the hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
