The Shaykh : This hadith has passed before us, and the point of interest in it is his saying: "Keep this in mind and inform those behind you," meaning: Teach those behind you. In it is evidence for the command that a person should teach those behind him.
I used to interpret between Ibn Abbas and the people. He said: The delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: Who is the delegation? Or who are the people? They said: Rabi'ah. He said: Welcome to the people, or to the delegation, without disgrace or regret. They said: We come to you from a great distance, and between us and you is this tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar, and we cannot come to you except in a forbidden month. So command us with a matter by which we will inform those behind us, by which we will enter Paradise. So he commanded them with four things and forbade them from four things. He commanded them to believe in Allah the Mighty and Majestic alone. He said: Do you know what it is to believe in Allah alone? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: The testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and giving the fifth of the war spoils. And he forbade them from the large jar, the small jar, and the large cup. Shu'bah said: Sometimes he said the small cup, and sometimes he said the large cup. He said: Keep this in mind and inform those behind you.
