The reciter: Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna, and Muhammad ibn Bashir narrated to us, and their wordings are similar. Abu Bakr said: Ghandar narrated to us from Shu'bah. The other two said: Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us from Shu'bah from Abu Jamrah, who said:
I was interpreting between Ibn 'Abbas and the people when a woman came to him asking about the wine of the jar. He said: The delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who is the delegation, or who are the people? They said: Rabi'ah. He said: Welcome to the people, or to the delegation, not disgraced nor drunk. They said: O Messenger of Allah, we come to you from a great distance, and between us and you is this tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar, and we are not able to come to you except in the sacred month. So command us with a decisive matter that we may inform those behind us, by which we will enter Paradise. He commanded them with four things and forbade them from four things. He commanded them to believe in Allah alone, and he said: Do you know what belief in Allah is? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: The testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, establishing the prayer, giving zakah, fasting Ramadan, and paying the fifth of the war spoils. He forbade them from the gourd, the large jar, the wine-skin, and the cup. Shu'bah said: He sometimes said the cup. Shu'bah said: He sometimes said the large cup. He said: Keep this in mind and inform those behind you.
كنت أترجم بين يدي ابن عباس وبين الناس فأتته امرأة تسأله عن نبيذ الجر فقال : إن وفد عبد القيس أتوا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من الوفد أو من القوم قالوا ربيعة قال مرحبا بالقوم أو بالوفد غير خزايا ولا الندامى قال فقالوا يا رسول الله إنا نأتيك من شقة بعيدة وإن بيننا وبينك هذا الحي من كفار مضر وإنا لا نستطيع أن نأتيك إلا في شهر الحرام فمرنا بأمر فصل نخبر به من وراءنا ندخل به الجنة قال فأمرهم بأربع ونهاهم عن أربع قال أمرهم بالإيمان بالله وحده وقال هل تدرون ما الإيمان بالله قالوا الله ورسوله أعلم قال شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمدا رسول الله وإقام الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة وصوم رمضان وأن تؤدوا خمسا من المغنم ونهاهم عن الدباء والحنتم والمزفت قال شعبة وربما قال النقير قال شعبة وربما قال المقير وقال احفظوه وأخبروا به من ورائكم
And Abu Bakr said in his narration: "behind you," and his narration does not include "the large cup."
