The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And protect them from the evils. And whoever is protected from the evils on that day, then He has shown him mercy, and that is the greatest success.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this verse is that the angels who carry the Throne and those around it ask Allah the Exalted to protect the believers, to protect them from the evils, meaning their punishment, until what is required for them is completed.
If someone were to say: Is this not already achieved by what came before?
and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire. وقهم عذاب الجحيم
[Ghafir 40:7]
and admit them to gardens of perpetual residence وأدخلهم جنات عدن
[Ghafir 40:8]
We say: Yes, but in the station of supplication, it is recommended to be expansive for several reasons. The first reason is that supplication is worship, so the more you expand in it, the more you increase in devotion to Allah, and the more you increase in reward and merit.
Second: Expansion involves detail, and detail is better than generalization, because in generalization a person may forget important things that do not come to mind, but if you detail it, the matter becomes clear.
Third: Detail in supplication is an expansion with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), because the one who supplicates is conversing with his Lord, and it is known that in conversing with the Beloved, it is recommended to prolong the conversation, or we can say in another phrase: it is known that the Beloved loves for the conversation between him and his Beloved to be prolonged. This is something observed; if someone you love sits with you, you wish the conversation and the sitting to be prolonged, until time slips by quickly. And if the heavy one sits with you, you say:
If the heavy one settles in the home of a people, what is left for the residents but departure?
Sometimes the heavy one sits with you, addressing you and speaking to you; every word he addresses you with, even if it is praise of you, is as if he has slapped your face, because it is as if he is sitting on your heart. But the Beloved, if he sits with you, you do not wish to part from him and you do not tire of his conversation. But who are the best of companions?
We have companions whose conversation we do not tire of, wise ones, trustworthy in secret and in public.
By this, he means the books.
The most noble place in the world is a saddle of a galloping horse, and the best companion in time is a book.
These are the companions who do not tire and who benefit and do not harm.
Well, in any case, we say that it is recommended to be expansive in supplication for three reasons: The first is that it is worship, so the more you expand in it, the more you increase in devotion and nearness to Allah. The second is that it is detail, and detail is better than generalization, because there may be in the detail something that is hidden from you in the generalization. And the third is that it is an expansion with Allah, who is the most beloved thing to you, and the conversation with the Beloved, without doubt, everyone loves for it to be prolonged. Look at the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
O Allah, forgive me all my sins, the small and the large, the public and the private, the first and the last. O Allah, forgive me what I have hastened and what I have delayed, what I have made public and what I have hidden, and what You know better than I do. اللهم اغفر لي ذنبي كله دقه وجله علانيته وسره وأوله وآخره اللهم اغفر لي ما قدمت وما أخرت وما أعلنت وما أسررت وما أنت أعلم به مني
It is sufficient for all of this to say: “O Allah, forgive me my sin,” but expansion has an effect on the heart, yes.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that whoever is protected from the evils on the Day of Resurrection has entered into the mercy of Allah, by His saying:
And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy ومن تق السيئات يومئذ فقد رحمته
[Ghafir 40:9]
.
And among the benefits of the verse is that mercy, just as it is in bringing the beloved, is also in repelling the disliked, by His saying:
And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day - You will have given him mercy ومن تق السيئات يومئذ فقد رحمته
[Ghafir 40:9]
.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that this is the greatest success, by the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And that is the greatest success وذلك الفوز العظيم
And the aspect of this is that He referred to it with the reference of distance to indicate the highness of this success, and He described it with greatness, so it combines the highness of the rank and the highness of the essence, that it is great.
The student: ...

The Shaykh : We answer: What benefit is there in bodies with no movement... No, that is not sufficient, because if that were sufficient, we would not need Paradise at all. We say: It is sufficient for you that you were saved from the Fire, and there is no need for Paradise.
