Q: from: A. A. H. - from Riyadh: Sometimes my soul speaks to me about doing something wrong or saying something bad, but often I do not express the word or perform the act. Is there any sin on me for that? And what is the meaning of His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): [al-Baqarah: 284].
A: This noble verse was abrogated by Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with His saying:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] the verse [al-Baqarah: 286]. It is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: Muslim narrated it in his Sahih. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bulugh al-Maram 8:133 It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
By this, it is known that what occurs in the soul of whispers and worrying about some evil deeds is forgiven as long as its owner does not speak of it or act upon it. And whenever he leaves it off out of fear of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), Allah writes for him a good deed for that; because it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what indicates this. And Allah is the One who grants success.
To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it
لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُA: This noble verse was abrogated by Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) with His saying:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred.
لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَاHe has done so
قد فعلتAllah, the Most High, has forgiven my followers what they contemplate on within themselves (i.e. evil thoughts) as long as they do not act upon or speak about them.
