Explaining the rank of the science of tafsir and that it is among the noblest of sciences.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Fifth Topic: The Importance of Tafsir. Tafsir is among the most noble and highest of the sciences in status, because a person attempts to understand the meaning of the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) through it. Sciences are honored according to their subject matter, and there is nothing more noble than the subject of interpreting the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Thus, tafsir is among the most noble of sciences, if not the most noble and greatest in status, because it concerns the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and because it follows the path of the Salaf, who did not pass ten verses until they learned them and the knowledge and practice contained therein. Also, when a person understands the speech of Allah, he tastes its flavor, and he recites it while finding the sweetness of its meaning, and he finds more comfort in it than an unlettered person who knows of the Book only its hopes.
In the science of tafsir, the heart finds peace, and in the science of tafsir, a person knows the worth of this great Qur'an, which Allah described with several great descriptions:
And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an. ولقد آتيناك سبعا من المثاني والقرآن العظيم
[Al-Hijr 15:87]
Most of us, may Allah pardon us, do not care about tafsir, nor do they take an interest in it. Perhaps one looks forward to a book by a scholar who errs and hits the mark, and one contemplates this book in its explicit wording, its meaning, its allusion, its hint, and other types of indication, but one does not care about the speech of Allah. If it were not for seeking blessing in its reward, one would not even touch it unless Allah wills, and this is an error.
Even among the students of knowledge now, there are those who do not take an interest in tafsir. You find them taking an interest in books of fiqh, books of hadith, and books of narrators, while they turn away from this, which is the foundation, the foundation of foundations that we must know, and upon which we will be held accountable.
the Qur'an is proof, either for you or against you القرآن حجة لك أو عليك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2437Sahih (Darussalam)
I stopped one of the greatest students of knowledge and asked him about a verse from the Qur'an, telling him to state its meaning. What does he say? Either he is bold and says: "Allah intended by this such and such," when He did not intend it, or he is scrupulous and says: "I do not know." But if the students of knowledge had taken the Qur'an from its beginning, reciting it, reflecting upon it, and contemplating it, they would have found much good, and doors of knowledge would have opened to them that do not even cross the mind.
And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says in the Noble Qur'an:
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance ولقد يسرنا القرآن للذكر
[Al-Qamar 54:17]
It is not difficult. If you truly turn to the Qur'an with a heart and a firm intention, it is easy, easier than all books, because He says:
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? ولقد يسرنا القرآن للذكر فهل من مدكر
[Al-Qamar 54:17]
.
These are excerpts I spoke about, and I ask Allah the Exalted to make them beneficial, in the introduction to tafsir, because some of our brothers may not have attended such rules that will benefit them, if Allah wills. As for now, let us proceed to the lesson we are dealing with.
