The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And of His signs is that you see the earth dead, but when We send down upon it water, it comes to life and swells. Indeed, He who gives it life is able to give life to the dead. Indeed, He is over all things competent.”

Among the benefits of this verse is using the tangible, visible as evidence for the promised, awaited. The point is that Allah used the visible, tangible thing, which is the growth of the earth after it was inert, as evidence for an awaited thing, which is the resurrection of the dead after their death.
It also contains using rational evidence, in that a person uses the tangible as evidence for the rational, meaning that Allah’s power over this indicates His power over the other.
Another benefit of it is the use of analogical reasoning (qiyas), and that analogical reasoning is established, because Allah the Exalted analogized the resurrection of the dead to the resurrection of the earth.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the emphasis of what requires emphasis, whether that is due to the denial of a denier, the doubt of a doubter, or the importance of the matter. For emphases are either for the importance of the matter, or to remove doubt and hesitation in a thing so that it becomes a matter of certainty, or to affirm a denied thing. For example, if the verse addresses those who deny the resurrection, this affirmation is to affirm a denial, meaning to affirm something that a group denied. If the verse addresses those who hesitate in it, it is to remove doubt and hesitation. And if we assume it addresses those who have no doubt or denial, it is for the importance of the matter, for the importance of the subject, because belief in it is what drives a person to work. If it were not for the fact that a person believes that he will be resurrected and rewarded, he would not be active in work. What most activates a person in work is his fear of the Day of Resurrection.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the generality of the power of Allah Mighty and Majestic, due to His saying:
Indeed He is able to do all things. إنه على كل شيء قدير
So nothing defeats Him due to the perfection of His knowledge and the perfection of His power. Allah the Exalted said:
But Allah is not to be caused failure by anything in the heavens or on the earth. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Competent. وما كان الله لِيعجزَه مِن شيءٍ في السماوات ولا في الأرض إنه كان عليما قديرا
[Fatir 35:44]
Because the one who is incapable is either so due to the lack of his knowledge or due to the lack of his power. So Allah Mighty and Majestic negated incapacity and clarified that that is due to the perfection of His knowledge and power. {Pay attention, O son of the brother, pay attention}. So,
Indeed, Allah is over all things competent إن الله على كل شيء قدير
Al-Jalal al-Suyuti, may Allah forgive us and him, mentioned in Surat al-Ma'idah a denounced statement. He said: “And the intellect has specified itself, so He is not able over it” Meaning, as if he is saying: He is competent over every thing except over His own self, so He is not able over it. And this is undoubtedly a denounced statement. As if he is saying, for example: Is Allah Mighty and Majestic able to annihilate Himself? According to his statement, we say: This is a dropped statement, because power only relates to the possible, while the impossible is impossible. It is not impossible according to our power, no, the impossible according to our power is not the impossible according to the power of Allah. But the impossible in itself, it is not possible for power or anything other than power to relate to it, except knowledge. For this reason, al-Saffarini said in the creed: “With a power that related to a possible thing.” So it is said to al-Jalal, may Allah pardon us and him: If you intended that Allah is not able to annihilate Himself, this is a matter that is not mentioned at all, because power does not relate to this. And if you intended that He is not able to descend to the lowest heaven and come to judge between His servants and rise above His Throne and the like of those voluntary actions, this is a lie. Rather, He is able to do that. But al-Suyuti, may Allah pardon us and him, is from those who hold that voluntary actions do not subsist with Allah. Meaning, he says: That Allah cannot descend, nor rise above, nor come on the Day of Resurrection, because these, in his claim, are occurrences, and occurrences do not relate except to an occurrence. In any case, this is a philosophy brought by the people of kalam, and how much they have brought of kalam. And their kalam is kalam about kalam, with no benefit, lengthening with no benefit, wasting time with no benefit, leading to doubt and hesitation with no benefit. For this reason, some of them said: “The most doubtful people at death are the people of kalam” We seek refuge in Allah. Why? Because they did not build their creed on the Book and the Sunnah; they built it on illusions they thought were rational, so they went astray and led others astray. We say as our Lord Mighty and Majestic said:
Indeed, Allah is over all things competent إن الله على كل شيء قدير
And that is sufficient. As for knowledge, it is broader than power. Knowledge is broader than power, because knowledge relates to the obligatory, the impossible, and the possible. Meaning, the knowledge of Allah relates to every thing, it relates even to the impossible. Allah the Exalted said:
Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined لو كان فيهما آلهة إلا الله لفسدتا
[Al-Anbya 21:22]
And this is impossible, and yet knowledge related to it.
But if the Truth had followed their inclinations, the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been ruined ولو اتبع الحق أهوائهم لفسدت السماوات والأرض ومَن فِيهن
[Al-Mu'minun 23:71]
And this is also impossible according to the wisdom of Allah Mighty and Majestic.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is using the general as evidence for the specific. So Allah the Exalted used two proofs for His power over the resurrection of the dead: one is specific and the second is general. The specific, what is the specific? The resurrection of the earth after its death. The general:
Indeed He is able to do all things. إنه على كل شيء قدير
And based on this benefit, the general encompasses all its individuals. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned that in his saying when he taught his ummah the tashahhud, he said:
If you do that, then you have greeted every righteous servant in the heavens and the earth. إذا فعلتم ذلك فقد سَلَّمْتُم على كلِّ عبدٍ صالح في السماء والأرض
Sahih Ibn Hibban 10:235
So, for example, if a man says: My houses are an endowment. Does it include all the houses?
The student: Yes.

The Shaykh : So, if he said: My cars are for so-and-so. It includes all the cars. And if he said: My women are divorced. It includes every woman he has. And if he said: My slaves are free. It includes every slave. The important thing is that the general encompasses all its individuals.
