The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And thus We have revealed to you an Arabic Qur'an so that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around it, and warn of the Day of Gathering, of which there is no doubt: a group in Paradise and a group in the Blazing Fire”

In this noble verse there are benefits, among which is that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah, based on His saying:
And thus We have revealed to you an Arabic Qur'an وكذلك أوحينا إليك قرءانا
[Ash-Shuraa 42:7]
The point of it being the speech of Allah is: is this Qur'an speech, or a created thing? It is speech. And if it is speech and Allah has attributed it to Himself, we know that it is the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Is it created? No, for two reasons. The first reason is that He described it, and all of the attributes of Allah are not created, because an attribute follows the Essence. So the Creator is Allah, and His attributes are not created.
Second: if we said that it is created, the command and prohibition would be invalidated. Because if we said that it is created, it would become a created thing in a specific form, just as the sun, moon, stars, mountains, and rivers are created in a specific form. So, for example,
Establish prayer أقيموا الصلاة
is not a command. Why? Because it created a design; it was created in this design. Now, for example, if you drew in the Qur'an:
Establish prayer أقيموا الصلاة
and you say that this is not speech but a created thing, it does not convey a command. The same is said regarding reports. Reports come to you in a long verse, all of which is in a report. If you say that the Qur'an is created, it becomes merely an inscription, not speech. Therefore, Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “The statement that the Qur'an is created invalidates the Shari'ah, because there would be no command or prohibition in it” It is merely shapes created in this way.
Establish prayer, you أقيموا الصلاة أنتم
If you look at:
Establish prayer أقيموا الصلاة
you will find that it is embroidery that differs from one part to another. It has a form, and the prayer has a form. If we said that these are things Allah created in this form, it would not be a command or a prohibition. So, the verse indicates that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah because Allah the Exalted attributed it to Himself.
Among the benefits of these noble verses is the pride of the Arabs, because the Qur'an is Arabic and it is for all nations.
And among its benefits is the wisdom of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in revealing the Qur'an in the language that those to whom it was revealed understand. This is like His saying:
And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them وما أرسلنا من رسول إلا بلسان قومه ليبين لهم
[Ibrahim 14:4]
.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the emphasis on knowing the Arabic language. The point of this is that if the Qur'an is Arabic and we are addressed by it and obligated to act upon it, then it is not possible to reach that except by learning the Arabic language.
And among the benefits of the verse is the indication that all people should speak the Arabic language. Because all people, collectively, must have Islam as their religion. If it is obligatory that their religion be Islam, then it follows from that that it is obligatory for them to learn the language of Islam. Therefore, we see that when Islam was at the height of its glory and strength, people entered the religion of Allah and learned the Arabic language. Among the Persians and the Romans were those who became imams in religion and imams in Arabic. *Al-Qamus al-Muhit* is the reference for people in the language now and before now. Who is its author? Al-Fayruzabadi. Is he from Quraysh or from the Banu Hashim? Neither. He is Persian. And yet, he is the reference for the Arabic language. Al-Bukhari is the imam of the hadith scholars, meaning the imam of the transmitters of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Is he Arab or non-Arab? He is non-Arab. Because in the Islamic conquests, the dominance was with the Muslims who spoke the Arabic language. So people learned Arabic out of necessity, because it is not possible to reach understanding of the religion except in the Arabic language. What is the state of people today? It is the opposite. Now, the Arab tries to learn a non-Arabic language. Because Islam, unfortunately, was abandoned and humiliated by the sins of its people. They became the most humiliated of nations, if I do not say the most humiliated of nations. I say: the most humiliated of nations, and I do not care. Because the Muslims possess great wealth, great minerals, and vast, wide spaces. If we measure that by their state, we find that they are the most humiliated of nations. Who has such wealth and then lags behind in this way? A handful of Jews play with their minds day and night. If I said: nations of Christians play with them. If they had dignity, they would be the ones controlling people and fighting them until the religion is all for Allah. But when they were humiliated, their language was humiliated. Now you find the shops in Arab lands, in our cities, in our villages, filled with signs in a non-Arabic language. Sometimes you find the shops as if you are in a London market, unless Allah wills. All of this is from whom? Good.
Among the benefits of these noble verses is the affirmation of the wisdom of Allah, taken from His saying:
to warn لتنذر
Because the *lam* here is for causation, and whenever the *lam* of causation is found in the Qur'an, it contains the affirmation of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And thus we know that everything Allah (Mighty and Majestic) does or legislates is for a wisdom.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is restricting oneself to one of the two themes of the message if wisdom requires it. The point of this is that He said:
that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around it لتنذر أم القرى ومن حولها
[Al-An'am 6:92]
and did not mention the glad tidings. Although Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) mentions the warning and the glad tidings in many places:
that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile لتبشر به المتقين وتنذر به قوما لد
[Maryam 19:97]
Because the context is with Quraysh. And Quraysh, as you know, are stubborn and transgressors. So it was appropriate to mention the warning without mentioning the glad tidings. Because if you see a transgressor, do you try to correct him with glad tidings first or with warning first? With warning first. And this is of the eloquence of the Qur'an, that it places everything in its proper place.
And among the benefits of these noble verses is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is obligated to warn the Mother of Cities as a primary obligation, based on His saying:
that you may warn the Mother of Cities لتنذر أم القرى
[Al-An'am 6:92]
and the others as a secondary warning.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the indication that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not reach those to whom he was sent directly, but rather he warns those around him, based on His saying:
that you may warn the Mother of Cities and those around it لتنذر أم القرى ومن حولها
[Al-An'am 6:92]
And I mentioned to you a little while ago this benefit; we mentioned it in the book of Tafsir.
Also, there is another benefit, which is that the Qur'an is in the Arabic language, and it is not possible to warn with it except:
the Mother of Cities and those around it [30] أم القرى ومن حولها
who are Arabs. As for the Persians, the Romans, the Copts, and the like of them, these people do not benefit from the Qur'an except after they know the Arabic language and know the meanings of the Qur'an. And perhaps this, and Allah knows best, is also among the wisdoms that Allah said:
And those around it ومن حولها
.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is frightening people of the Day of Resurrection, based on His saying:
warn of the Day of Assembly وتنذر يوم الجمع
[Ash-Shuraa 42:7]
.
And among its benefits is that the Day of Resurrection is certain to occur, based on His saying:
about which there is no doubt لا ريب فيه
[Al-Baqarah 2:2]
.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that people on that day will be divided into two groups: a group in Paradise and a group in the Blazing Fire. The people of Paradise head toward the Sirat to reach the highest, to Paradise. As for the people of the Fire, they do not ascend the Sirat, because it is not expected that they will be saved. Rather, they are driven to Hell in a state of extreme thirst. And the Fire is shown to them as if it were a mirage, and they think it is water, so they hasten to it. When they reach it, they find the matter to be the opposite, so they stop. But they are called to the Fire of Hell with a call, and it is said to them:
(14) "This is the Fire which you used to deny. (15) Then is this magic, or do you not see? (16) [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." هذه النار التي كنتم بها تكذبون * اصلوها فاصبروا أو لا تصبروا
[At-Tur 52:14-16]
.
