The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “He has prescribed for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Noah and what We revealed to you and what We enjoined upon Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: that you establish religion and do not divide in it. It is great in the minds of the polytheists what you are calling them to. Allah chooses to Himself whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back.”

Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the legislation of the religion belongs to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) alone. For this reason, Allah the Exalted rebuked those who legislate for their people a religion that Allah has not authorized, saying: [Ash-Shuraa 42:21].
And among its benefits is that the original ruling regarding acts of worship is prohibition unless there is evidence. Therefore, if you see a person performing an act by which he seeks nearness to Allah, you should rebuke him unless he presents evidence. This is unlike matters other than acts of worship, for which the original ruling is permissibility. Therefore, if you see a person doing something that is not an act of worship and you rebuke him, you must have evidence.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that the religions of the prophets are one, from Noah to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13]. So what is this tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in the religions? The tawhid in the religions is what is implied by the saying of Allah the Exalted: [An-Nahl 16:36]. This is the general rule in all the messages. [An-Nahl 16:36] As for the laws and the methodology, each people is given what suits them, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:48]. For this reason, we find that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) was strict with some of the Children of Israel in the law and lenient in another law. Jesus, the son of Mary (peace be upon him), said: [Ali 'Imran 3:50]. So the original rule is the unity of the messages, and this is the original rule referred to: [An-Nahl 16:36]. As for the laws and the methodology, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) legislates for each people what suits them, even for the same people, He legislates what suits them at the beginning of their affair and at the end of their affair, such as the abrogated matters in this Islamic law.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the prophethood of Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13].
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the care of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) for the laws, where He made that a bequest, and a bequest is a covenant regarding a matter of great importance.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is that this noble Qur'an is a revelation that Allah the Exalted revealed to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), as He said:[Fatir 35:31].
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that the Qur'an is comprehensive of the entire law, as He said:[Fatir 35:31]. If someone were to say: Is there in the law what is not found in the Qur'an in detail? The answer is: A reference to it is sufficient. That is to say, if we were to search, is there in the Qur'an what indicates the number of prayers, the number of their units, and their methods? The answer would be: No, it is not present. But the fact that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) commands us to obey the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and to follow him is sufficient, because we have been commanded regarding the Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and everything it contains. And thus, the entire law is present in the Qur'an, either by reference and indication or by explicit statement.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the message of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), where He said:[Fatir 35:31].
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that all the nations are commanded to establish the religion and not to divide in it, as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13].
And among its benefits is that division in the religion of Allah is contrary to what Allah revealed to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and what He enjoined upon Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called people to, namely tawhid (the oneness of Allah), was great and difficult for the polytheists, as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13]. Branching from this benefit is that whenever tawhid is great and difficult for the polytheists, they must strive with all their efforts to thwart this tawhid, because every person, by virtue of his fitrah (the innate natural disposition), must strive to remove what is difficult for him. And branching from that is a benefit: which is to beware of the schemes of the polytheists. And among the benefits of this noble verse is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Muslims and non-Muslims to the religion of Allah, as He said: [Ash-Shuraa 42:13]. And this was applied and its example is seen in the state of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He used to go out to other lands to call people to tawhid, as he went out to Ta'if. And during the season of Hajj, he would present himself to the tribes. (Peace and blessings be upon him) would come to every tribe and call them, saying: .
And among the benefits of this noble verse is that Allah may bestow upon some of the servants the gift of selection and guidance, as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13].
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the affirmation of the will of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for the action of the servant, as He said:[Ash-Shuraa 42:13]. So in it is a refutation of whom? Of the Qadariyyah (a sect that denied divine decree), who say that the human being is independent in his action and that there is no will of Allah the Exalted in his action.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of guidance for every one who turns back. And this guidance is other than the turning back. The turning back is a prior guidance, but whenever a person turns back to his Lord, he increases in guidance.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the protection by Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) of the one who turns back from religious innovations and contradictions, as He said:. And this is undoubtedly against religious innovations, because there is no guidance to Allah in religious innovations; rather, they are misguidance.
And among the benefits of this noble verse is the exhortation to turn back to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), because it is a cause for guidance.
And among its benefits is the refutation of the Jabriyyah (the determinists), as He said:. So He attributed the action to the servant. The Jabriyyah do not attribute actions to the servant; they say that the servant acts without will or choice. So in the verse, there is a refutation of the Qadariyyah (a sect that denied divine decree) and a refutation of the Jabriyyah, and they are two extreme, innovated sects. So what is the middle path? The middle path is the one that says that the human being is not compelled in his action and that he does the action by his choice, and he does not feel that anyone compelled him. But we know that this action that occurred from him occurred by the will of Allah and the desire of Allah, and it is not possible for a human being to be independent of anything in the universe without Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Yes.
who have ordained for them a religion to which Allah has not consented
شرعوا لهم من الدين ما لم يأذن به اللهAnd among its benefits is that the original ruling regarding acts of worship is prohibition unless there is evidence. ولأحل لكم بعض الذي حرم عليكمAnd We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut."
ولقد بعثنا في كل أمة رسولا أن اعبدوا الله واجتنبوا الطاغوتAnd among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the prophethood of Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, as He said:
He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein.
