The Shaykh :Sahih al-Bukhari 4800 until it is passed to the tongue of the sorcerer or the soothsayer. This is acceptable as long as it is for the sake of variation, so it does not contradict the collective reference. Now, he passes it to the tongue of the sorcerer, and the definition of sorcery has already been mentioned, right? It consists of incantations, ruqyah, and seeking refuge that affect the body, heart, mind, and thinking of the bewitched person, may Allah protect us. Sorcerers are of different types. As for the soothsayer, he is the one who informs about hidden matters in the future; this is the soothsayer. Some students of knowledge have been confused and thought that anyone who informs about the unseen, even regarding the past, is a soothsayer. The unseen regarding the past, which occurs on earth, is not truly unseen; it is only relatively unseen. Right now, for example, what is in the mosque is unseen for us, but it is not unseen for those who are there. So, a thing that has passed, if it occurred on earth, even if most people do not know about it, is not unseen, because it is necessary that someone knows it. A person may have a jinn that connects with him and informs him about what happened on earth, even if it was far away. The jinn connects, but not in a forbidden manner. This is what we call a soothsayer, because the soothsayer is the one who informs about hidden matters in the future. It is also said that the soothsayer is the one who informs about what is in the heart, which is a type of soothsaying. In reality, the one who informs about what is in the heart, if he does not rely on keen intuition, is considered a soothsayer. However, if he informs about what is in the heart based on intuition, then he is not a soothsayer at all, because some people may understand what is in a person from the expressions on his face and his glances. He may not know what is in his heart in detail, but he knows it in a general sense.
So, these people who inform about what happens on earth are not considered soothsayers by us, but we look at their conditions. If they are not trustworthy in their religion, then we do not believe them, because Allah says:[Al-Hujurat 49:6] And if they are righteous and we know that nothing forbidden comes from them, neither shirk nor similar sins in order to achieve their goal, then we do not include them among the soothsayers whose words are forbidden to be relied upon. Yes.
The questioner : … and he informed me of things … that no one had seen … he said, I will specify for you such and such.
The Shaykh : What is the problem?
The questioner : He said, I will specify for you such and such. Is he considered a soothsayer?
The Shaykh : No, he is not a soothsayer.
The questioner : No one has seen them.
The Shaykh : But did it happen? It is possible that you have a jinn … well, jinn may serve the children of Adam without it being forbidden, out of love for Allah the Exalted … or else knowledge he obtains from them, or for other reasons. Yes, he says, well, so we understand from this that the soothsayers receiving eavesdropping is clear, because they inform about hidden matters in the future, so they inform about what Allah the Exalted has decreed in the sky. But even sorcerers may benefit from this, and they may have a jinn who eavesdrops for them. Yes.
The questioner : Shaykh.
The Shaykh : Yes
The questioner : Which sky … they listen
The Shaykh : The lowest sky
The questioner : the lowest heaven
The Shaykh : Yes, because they cannot penetrate, as Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anbya 21:32]
He says:Sahih al-Bukhari 4800 What is the shooting star? The shooting star that Allah the Exalted sends is a penetrating, strong shooting star. This shooting star may reach the eavesdropper before he passes it to the one below him, so it reaches the first one. Or it may reach the one below him, so it does not reach the soothsayer. Or perhaps he passes it to the soothsayer before it reaches him, and he lies a hundred lies with it.
The questioner : ...
The Shaykh : Yes, yes, it comes from the stars; it moves from the stars because the stars are masses of fire, so it is launched from them, and it is not the star itself. So, when Allah the Exalted says:[Al-Mulk 67:5] the scholars said that the shooting star is launched from them. This is a case of the pronoun referring to a part, not the whole.
The questioner : ...
The Shaykh : No, this is what the astronomers say: that there are meteors that fall from the sky and that they may cause cracks in the earth … originally, but if a star were to fall on the earth, it would destroy it all.
The questioner : ... .
The Shaykh : Yes, … this may be from it, and it may also be from other shooting stars. The astronomers say that there are meteors that are launched, I do not know from the stars or from other orbits, I do not know. Yes.
The questioner : … fragments of the star … .
The Shaykh : We see now that this is a matter … because the scholars differed on whether it was cut off after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), or whether it was cut off only during his time, and the latter is more likely. It was cut off during his time so that the words of the soothsayers would not be confused with revelation. But after that, the reason for which it stopped was removed.
and the second will convey it to that which is below him till the last of them will convey it to the wizard or foreteller
ثم يلقيها الآخر إلى من تحته حتى يلقيها على لسان الساحر أو الكاهنSo, these people who inform about what happens on earth are not considered soothsayers by us, but we look at their conditions. If they are not trustworthy in their religion, then we do not believe them, because Allah says:
O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance
