The Shaykh :"The fourth point: That Abu Jahl and those with him knew" Or perhaps, for example, some of the ignorant people today say, "We say: There is no god but Allah," while they worship 'Abd al-Qadir, they worship Ahmad al-Badawi, they worship Lady Zaynab, and the like, and they say: There is no god but Allah, and... they worship other than Allah, what... .

The Shaykh : Yes
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : They claim to follow the Messenger, yes, they claim to follow the Messenger, and they say: There is no god but Allah.
"The fourth point: That Abu Jahl and those with him knew the intended meaning of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he said to the man".

The Shaykh : "Iz" is better than "idha." "When he said to the man:
Say: La ilaha illallah قل لا إله إلا الله
Sahih al-Bukhari 6681
. May Allah curse Abu Jahl, for he was more knowledgeable about the foundation of Islam than he was"
. It is true that Abu Jahl and those with him knew the intended meaning of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in his saying: There is no god but Allah, or not? And for this reason, they immediately rebelled and said: "Are you trying to make us turn away from the religion of 'Abd al-Muttalib?" And he also refused to say: There is no god but Allah, and said that he was upon the religion of 'Abd al-Muttalib, may Allah protect us from that. So he knew what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended by this word. And as Allah the Exalted said in the Qur'an:
(35) Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant (36) And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" إنهم كانوا إذا قيل لهم لا إله إلا الله يستكبرون ويقولون أئنا لتاركوا آلهتنا لشاعر مجنون
[As-Saffat 37:35-36]
May Allah protect us from that. So the result is that those who claim: There is no god but Allah, meaning that there is no creator but Allah, or: There is no god but Allah, while they worship other than Him, these are more ignorant than? More ignorant than Abu Jahl, more ignorant than Abu Jahl. And what is the author's caution in "May Allah curse Abu Jahl, for he was more knowledgeable about the foundation of Islam than he was"? And why did he mention Abu Jahl?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Because they embraced Islam. Because they embraced Islam, and by their Islam they became more knowledgeable than those who came after them. They became more knowledgeable than those who came after them, especially in the time of the author, in the later eras.
