The questioner : What is the ruling on saying: “O Allah, there is no ease except what You have made easy, for You make hardship easy if You will”? And is it a hadith?
The Shaykh : This is rhymed speech.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Its meaning is correct, but there is no need for it. It is sufficient to say instead: “O Allah, make the easy path easy for us, keep us away from the difficult path, and forgive us in the Hereafter and the worldly life”. It is well known that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) is able to make the easy difficult and the difficult easy, for He is Able to do all things.
On this occasion, I advise my brothers who are eager to make du'a' in prayer and at times of du'a', such as between the adhan and the iqamah, in the du'a' at 'Arafah, and in the du'a' at Muzdalifah, to strive with the utmost effort to make du'a' with what the Sunnah has brought, because the one who makes du'a' with that knows best of all creation what is fitting and what is beneficial in du'a'. So let them seek out the supplications with which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made du'a' in the authentic hadiths as well, because there are weak hadiths containing incorrect supplications. How wonderful it would be if my brothers, the students of knowledge, wrote down what is available of the authentic supplications narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), whether general or specific to prayer, or to standing at 'Arafah, or to tawaf, or to sa'y. If they did that, much good would be achieved by preserving these Sunnahs and staying away from the many rhymed supplications that contain no good, and which may even include matters that undermine 'aqidah. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
