The ruling on the Friday prayer if it coincides with the day of the festival

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on the Friday prayer if it coincides with the day of the festival? Is it obligatory to perform it for all Muslims? Or is it obligatory for a specific group? This is because some people believe that if the festival falls on a Friday, there is no Friday prayer. Is that so?

A: It is obligatory for the imam of the Friday prayer and its preacher to establish the Friday prayer, to be present in the mosque, and to pray with whoever is present. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to establish it on the day of the festival; he would pray the festival prayer and the Friday prayer, (peace and blessings be upon him). He sometimes recited "Subhan" and "Al-Ghashiyah" in both the festival prayer and the Friday prayer, as al-Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) stated in what is established from him in the authentic collections. However, for whoever attends the festival prayer, it is permissible for him to leave the Friday prayer and pray the midday prayer in his home or with some of his brothers if they have attended the festival prayer. If he prays the Friday prayer with the people, that is better and more complete. If he leaves the Friday prayer because he attended the festival and prayed the festival prayer, there is no blame on him, but he must pray the midday prayer either individually or in congregation. And success is from Allah.
