The Ruling on Washing and Praying for One Who Kills Himself

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is one who kills himself washed, and is the funeral prayer performed for him?

Answer:
One who kills himself is washed, the funeral prayer is performed for him, and he is buried with the Muslims; because he is a sinner, not a disbeliever. Killing the soul is a sin, not disbelief. So if he kills himself—may Allah protect us from that—he is washed, the funeral prayer is performed for him, he is shrouded, the funeral prayer is performed for him, and he is buried with the Muslims. However, it is recommended for the greatest imam, and for whoever holds a position of importance, to refrain from praying for him as a form of disapproval, so that it is not thought that he is pleased with his action.
So the greatest imam, the sultan, or the judges, or the head of the country, or the judge of the country, or its governor, if they refrain from doing so as a form of disapproval of this matter and to declare that this is a mistake, then that is good. But some of the Muslims should pray for him.
