Ruling on Giving Money to the Family of the Deceased

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Some of the condolence visitors give some money to the family of the deceased according to their ability. Is this permissible? May Allah reward you with good.

A: The Sunnah is to prepare food for them if it is easy to do so. When the news of the death of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Mu'tah, he said to his family:
Prepare some food for the family of Ja'far, for indeed something has happened to them that will keep them busy.اصنعوا لأهل جعفر طعامًا فإنه قد جاءهم ما يشغلهم
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 998Hasan (Darussalam)
So, if they prepare food for them to eat, that is good.
As for giving them money, this is not prescribed, except if they are poor and in need. In that case, they are not given money during the time of condolence, but at another time because of their poverty and need.
