What is the ruling on a person who told me a secret and ordered me not to tell anyone, and then my husband asked me to tell him about it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Another question ...

The Shaykh : And peace be upon you.

The questioner : A secret, I mean.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : A person told me a secret.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And he ordered me not to tell anyone about it.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.

The questioner : So my husband asked me to tell him what was said.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible.

The questioner : He did not say anything to me.

The Shaykh : What is the reason?

The questioner : My father told me a secret.

The Shaykh : I understand, I understand. Do not repeat your words. Answer the question. May Allah guide you. Why are you lying to him? What is the reason? What is the motive?

The questioner : So that I do not upset him.

The Shaykh : By Allah, if it is not the custom that you do not upset your husband throughout your married life with him, and you fear that he will be upset, then lie to him. But what I think, without offense, is that no woman is free from upsetting her husband and annoying him over the most trivial matters, right? Right?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Then it is not permissible ...

The questioner : Lying is not permissible with him in all circumstances.

The Shaykh : Except in a case of dire necessity ...

The questioner : For example.

The Shaykh : I do not know. I gave you an example. If in your married life nothing has occurred between you and him that upset him, and you have not upset him, and here you are afraid of upsetting him, there is no harm in you lying to him. But if you upset him over something much less serious than this, and now you do not want to upset him, lying is not permissible in this case.
